NYC - Seahawk Spawn Inbound

A few months ago my daughter decided to leave Scottsdale and head back East. She had some job offers in Atlanta, DC, and Charleston, etc. but was focused on NYC. She is 25 and who can blame her.

She has been staying with us for a month as she organized her strategy. She still mows better than I do. She has the gift.

Two trips up, two offers and she accepted one today. Great money, benefits and a chance to excel, all her favorite things.

The reason I posted this is that it just happens so fast, the journey from child to being offered the exact job she wanted in NYC. Man, young folks with kids, enjoy!

Our goal was to instill confidence and manners, a sense of responsibility and self awareness. Check.

My favorite picture of her:

Too cool and a neat 'old' pic. NYC would be great when young and some $$ in your pocket.

Paul, that's just awesome. I wish for the same things in my own children, and hope that I'm able to be half as successful as you have been.

A he11 of a lot of money anywhere in the USA is minimum wage in NYC.

WOW!!

stellar work parents!! love stories like this!!

flipside of the coin - my brother got his GF's kid to watch and feed his dogs while we were away from vacation. he fed and watered the dogs. what he DIDNT do was bring in the mail. it got so full, and overflowing the USPS stopped delivery. this kid stepped over the avalanche of mail to get thru the front door. he said, "oh, you only told me to take care of the dogs".

while that is totally true...................

Congrats to your daughter, and to her parents.

NYC is a fascinating place to be, and while I don't live in Manhattan proper (I'm across the Hudson on the "Gold Coast" of NJ), I've spent all of my working days over the last 13 years in this city. The energy of the place is palpable and exciting and it doesn't ever get old (for me).

Let us know when you're in town for delivery or visits. We can try to rustle up some local Pelicans for adult beverages.

Funny, That's what kids do. My wife would tell my younger buy to take their clothes downstairs. He goes and take his tee shirt and socks only and leave his brother's in the same pile just where they left it coming into the house.

Younger one: "My clothes are down there, those aren't mine". Runs off.

Paul, I will say this, its not your kids, it you and your wife's doing / hard work that they turned out this way. I say hats off to both of you.

My sentiments exactly. Children are a product of their environment. You and your wife gave them the environment to thrive.

If that was true my son wouldn’t have become the man he is. I sucked at being a parent.

Congratulations Paul, and good luck to your daughter.

That’s what life is about. No other accomplishments compare. Congrats.

You must be proud. I work very hard to
Make sure my 12 year old will have similar attributes. I’m in New York and very involved in the rental market (not a landlord or broker) if you need objective insight into sub markets.

She will have a blast!

PM sent with my contact info - thanks!

Glen is right, btw - Arden got the looks and talent from her Mother!

One of the better threads we've had here in a while.

Thanks, Paul.....and all the best to your little girl in the Big Apple!

The one thing Arden did get from me is financial acumen. She is a spread sheet monster and had already calculated fed/state/city and other fees before she settled on a salary range.

Her FJ will stay here and I'll take over the insurance since I will be driving a few times a week. She has no loans or credit payments of any kind. Other than her phone plan, she is clear.

Thanks for the positive comments. I always enjoy the family posts here and thought I contribute...again:cool:

Congrats to your daughter and her parents for a job well done!

What area/industry is her career?

I think NYC is terrific place for someone that's starting a career. The city is full of many bright young professionals. It's easy to make friends and build a great network and maybe even find a spouse. It's a coalescing point for many of this nation's brightest young adults. That your daughter had the foresight to "run the math" tells me that she's got what it takes to make it work.

I spent a couple years living there in my early 30s and still visit often for work. While, I was quite happy to leave and have no desire to go back (it's too expensive and really difficult to have a car hobby), I'm thankful for the experience of earning that "merit badge".

I've been meaning to start a thread on parenting tips. As my kids are now 7 and 10, I'm trying to learn from those that have BTDT on how best to develop the next generation in this Brave New World we now live in.

Congrats again!
