Does your dog watch TV?

I came across an infomercial for a channel called DogTV on the Dish satellite network today. At first, I thought it was a show about dogs but I was wrong. It's a show for dogs
Then I though it must be a parody or something. Wrong again...it really is a channel designed to be viewed by dogs and is meant to be left on for your dog when you're not at home.

My dog pays no attention to the TV at all...even if I'm watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. I really can't imagine him getting anything out of this.

Here's a video clip explaining what it's all about ↓

Mine did.

We used to leave Animal Planet on for her.

She'd sit on the couch totally fixated.

Funniest was when shots of herd animals running would come on.

She'd charge the TV and "chase" them which culminated in her looking around the back of the TV trying to figure out where they went.

Always good for a laugh at her expense.

Yes, the dogs watch TV, if something good is on.

My dog pays no attention to the TV at all. Like it doesn't even exist. Even if a barking dog is on. I guess they won't be selling him any kibbles.

No "TV" service, but any time animals were on incredible interest shown.

Often accompanied by barking.

We also couldn't use the word squirrel in conversation as this would ensue a search for a squirrel.

If it runs from me, chase it, if it runs at me, run from it. That was our dog's motto in life.

We DVR Lassie reruns, which by the way are still very good. Noah likes the series with Corey the park ranger the best. Lots of wildlife education, drama, heartwarming goodness with direct references to God.

Also see all the vehicles that were 'new' then.....

I would think that most dogs would like to watch The View. A kinship sort of thing.

One of our cats watches movies. She prefers action movies. Big fan of the Marvel Universe stuff. Whenever we go up to the movie room she joins us and sits on the end of one of the recliners and watches.

They did a study on monkey's freaking out at snakes.

They would have monkeys watch monkeys freak out at snakes.

Then they would edit the footage to put something other than a snake in place of the snake.

They wanted to learn if Monkeys learned fear from watching the fearful reactions of other monkeys, or if the fear was embedded.

Our mini schnauzer watches TV on occasion. Last night we were laughing about it when our pooch sat up and stared at the TV for a while.

Don't own a dog...but I do have a tv outdoors near the turtle pond. They will watch any program..they're not fussy.

The family of one of my best friends when I was in school had a little Yorkie that became aware of the TV suddenly. She would watch it for hours waiting for a dog, particularly a small one like her, to appear. If the TV was off she'd wait in front of it, staring for hours until someone turned it on and she could watch the images again. She seemed to have infinite patience waiting.

Fortunately I'm at work when that show is on and my wife is conservative so she has no interest in DVRing it. One day I was at home and gave it a try... lasted about 15 seconds.

Our cats sometimes watch TV, they don't seem to have a preference, just quick moving things.

Same here I have one who watches TV fairly regularly and becomes engaged in the action! The other Schnauzer could care less what's on or what noises are coming out of the TV.

DogTV, an HDTV cable channel designed for dogs, interests canines because HDTV has a much higher number of frames per second and is specially colored to accommodate dogs' dichromatic vision, said Dodman, who is the channel's chief scientist

Well, I had no idea that even this many dogs & cats will actually watch TV. None of my dogs ever had any interest. None of my dogs ever reacted to its reflection in a mirror either.

Maybe there's something to this DogTV thing after all...
