Annoying pop up ads

Shows up in my browser and over lays the website I am viewing. Cant find a solution.

Any educated directions to take? Windows 7 O/S.

In that case, yes. But also overlays the browser.

I was looking for an obvious download that may have been the culprit. If I found it I could delete it. Didn't see any obvious files.

BTW, the messages do NOT show up in my email folders.

Malwarebytes works well and it's free to use. They want you to pay for the full version but you can download it and run it for free. (Just read the instructions as you install it and turn off "start up when Windows starts" so it doesn't sit in your notifications area) It will quarantine any nasty add-ware and general junk on your laptop. I'd bet you'll be pleasantly surprised at how well you laptop works after it's been cleaned.

I use chrome as a browser, and installed adblock. Also disable pop-ups in chrome.

widebody911 08-21-2018 07:04 AM

Yes, you're getting notification spam - those are coming from the OS and not the browser. Are you running Windows 10? They're native to Win10, but malware can install them in prior versions too

A pox on popup advertisers.

stomachmonkey 08-21-2018 08:36 AM

Well both of them are newjobstarter(dot)com.

Are all of them?

If yes then you signed up for or somehow got signed up for their service and accepted desktop notifications as part of your terms of service agreement.

You can probably disable in your online account profile / preferences.

Not sure.

But they could have dropped their own applet.

Do a system restore to a date before this started.

Joe Bob 08-21-2018 05:23 PM

Yeah, prolly will do a restore. Ran Malware and no joy. It's always for minimum wage drone jobs....

Baz 08-21-2018 05:59 PM

Just click the little "x" in the upper right corner.....done!

Joe Bob 08-21-2018 06:08 PM

20 times a day? Thanks Baz, great advice.....

Are they all from newjobstarter(dot)com?

Did you sign up for any service with them?

Joe Bob 08-28-2018 03:34 PM

Rest didn't work....but....right clicking on the ad brings up a pull down with a "disable" option for the sending website.

Maybe it WAS that simple.

I use FireFox and JavaScript is disabled on every site unless I explicitly enable it.

Well here is what I'd do. Immediately on startup after Windows opens, right-click on the task bar and select Task Manager. If it asks for permission to make mods, say yes.. Next select "processes" and what that until the little bastards popup. There should be a new process just started. Right click on it and then see where it is loading from. Last of all shut down, restart in Safe Mode and delete that sub directory. Good luck

I use Win7 w/ GWX control panel to block forced Win10 'up'grades, NoScript on everything unless absolutely required, Spybot, Microsoft Security Essentials although Malwarebytes is good or better i think.

Intel Management Engine Interface sounds a bit odd and a security risk. Not sure about the fix on that.

My CPU seems a bit too energetic (25-85%) at rest with the minimum programs running.
Battery only lasts a couple hours instead of five or six.
Scanning in safe mode shows nothing.
