Yep. I have a small 4-way onion for lunch at least once a week. They greet you at the door and are supposed to ask how you are. I've replied, "hungry" so many times that it's now, "How are you today Patrick?" and everyone in the place says, "Hungry!"

Nice. I grew up eating Chili made by my dad's family which is from Cincinnati. It's in between Texas and Cincinnati chili, but closer to the stuff from here in Texas than it is to the stuff at skyline. I've had and tried a few recipes that I found online that are supposed to be Skyline-esque and found one that I and the missus likes. It's not a replacement for my grandma's chili, but it is very tasty from time to time. There's a lot of flavor.

I'd like to get to a skyline some day. I'd probably go for a 4-way too. That sounds tasty.

This is the recipe that I settled on.

2 lg - grated onions
2 lbs - extra lean ground beef
2 cloves - garlic
2 tbs - chili powder
2 tsp - allspice
2 tsp - cinnamon
2 tsp - cumin
1/2 tsp - cayenne powder
3 tbs - cocoa
29 oz - can tomato sauce
2 tbs - Worcestershire sauce
1 tbs - cider vinegar

Grate onions. Put the onions in the pot, then add the meat. Mash meat to separate, then add the remaining ingredients and cook for 3 hours.

Nice score. Needs more cheese (when isn't that true).

Sounds interesting. I’ll give it a try later in the fall. I’ve tried ersatz recipes in the past. The one secret every recipe misses is grinding the beef very fine. I had the best success with getting the right consistentcy by frying it and then whacking it in a food processor.
They sell frozen Skyline around here. I’ll try some, and if it’s like the real thing I can hook you up.

I haven’t had or looked for Poutine, yet, but we did have some really, REALLY cajun-inspired food today at Toulouse Petite in the Queen Anne area. Wow, the food there is really good.

So much good food out in the neighborhoods around QA (Fremont/Ballard). Nice to see a little exploration and skipping the chains.

Not far from Queen Anne, at the 74th St Ale House (about two blocks from John Walker's Workshop, a popular tourist destination for certain auto enthusiasts) they serve a Rueben sandwich unlike any you have ever had. I am confident I will never taste a better Rueben. There is a sister tavern on Queen Anne which serves the same sandwich though I do not know whether they also offer the same pasta salad as accompaniment. Seriously. Rueben sandwich. 74th St Ale House. With the pasta salad.

They also serve great beers there in imperial pints (20 oz). This place knows what it's doing.

We love, love, love a Reuben. I make them at home with our homemade garlic sauerkraut. We will probably go there when we go back to Seattle in a couple of days.
