Great post, Sandy....a spectacularly beautiful ship with a remarkable history.
I landed on the Missouri a number of times in 1990/91 in the Gulf...nothing special, parts and Pony but something you never forget. I never had the opportunity to see the site of the signing, nor did I remember the date today. Thanks for the reminder. Best. |
It was signed on the misery because that was Truman's home state, truman's daughter christened the ship, and and the navy wanted to kiss up to him.
There were many ships that had a more distinguished military career in WWII and deserved to have been honored more than the misery. |
