It has been studied that tremendous resources were diverted from the war effort. The idea of moving 11M people (and I think it was higher) using 1930's rail. All of those resources could have been used to move men and material. Also, if Hitler embraced the Jews, he would have had all of the key physicists. Germany didn't have the money to develop the bomb, but without all of the talent, we would not.

My next door neighbors growing up both escaped from Europe before WWII. One from Austria and the other from the Czech republic. The Czech woman also had to escape from Paris as Germany ripped across France.

My grandparents survived Belsen, by a miracle,( the actuality well documented in a book that I have copy of).My father escaped Germany in 1938, but went back to Berlin in 1945 to round up and interrogate Nazis( every one of whom denied any guilt and had no remorse whatsoever).The German government eventually paid restitution to victims : they would not have done so if there hadn't been a Holocaust.
Most Germans happily received Jewish property,, businesses, and possessions stolen from the Jews, so we're guilty of receiving stolen property if nothing else( in fact they all knew what was going on even if they denied it after the war.

When my youngest was in the 8th grade, there was a girl who was raised in Indonesia he was friends with. She was a mixed race kid a very pretty girl. My son had a few friends over the house having pizza - 8th grade stuff. The subject of Muslim extremism came up. The girl, who was raised Muslim, asks a question " do you know what Jewish extremism is?" She then responds " it is a bunch of Jews that complain a few died during WWII." My wife is Jewish, my children are raised in Judaism, I'm not Jewish. My wife's jaw dropped! "Do you know this is a Jewish household she asks?" there was no reply and she never came over again.

A good portion and or most of the killing was done outside of the death camps. It was only one means of processing Jews. They only came into being in mid 42 after The Wansee confrence. The industrialization of genocide.

The Concentration Camps date to the mid 30's and were first used for political prisoners or enemies of the state. Later came the slave Labour and death camps (in Poland).

Poland suffered about 5m deaths. 3m Jews and 2m ethnic Poles.

The Russians after liberating their own Pows amd slave labour shot them or a majority of them were sent to the Gulags. The woman prisoners were raped or murdered by their own as well.

Eichmans job was the organization and transporting of the Jews to the processing and rendering plants in Poland. He was always complaing that the trains from France were never full. It seems that the French, Wermacht and even SS were none too keen on rounding up French Jews, mostly relying on refugee Jews to pack off to the processing in the East.

Russians Jews and Communists were processed on site mostly with bullets and carbon monoxide vans of the Einstatz Gruppen. In Poland the Jews were rounded up and put into Ghettos where they where famine and disease took care of the problem. The Latvians to the Germans surprise showed even more zeal in processing Jews than they did.Then came the slave Labour camps where famine, disease and over work killed millions.

Later (1953) it was only Stalin's death that prevented his plans for the purging of the Jews in Russia from taking place.

To be clear, of the number of people killed by the Nazi hate machine, only half were Jews. The numbers vary depending on who you talk with but I have heard and go by 6 million Jews and then another 5 million others. This included Christians (any anyone who stood against the Nazis), Roma gypsies, and all people who had a disability of any kind.

Hitler put all his eggs in one lunatic basket. He gained power and united the German people upon the foundation of a pure Aryan race that would create a super-power nation. As we know in life, to have a hero, there has to be an enemy. Hitler chose the Jews as the enemy of the people. His system spent a huge amount of money eliminating the Jews but he also stole property, bank accounts, jewelry (even gold filings), art, and slave labor to make up for it. The one place he couldn't offset his loses was in the brain drain of scientists who fled and businesses and workers who quietly did less than their best (a la Schindler).

Not all Germans were Nazis. Some feared reprisal and quietly went along. Sadly, IMO, Dr. Porsche is in this group. Others who were vocal were silenced by force or simply "disappeared". Everyone knew what was happening. The ones in denial put on their rose colored glasses and ignored the elephant in the room.

Never met one who would admit it, but then again I'm particular in whom I associate with.

Reinhard Heydrich was the guy who was instrumental in setting up the Concentration Camps (including Death Camps after the Wansee Conference) and coalescing power unto the SS and Gestapo secret police mechanism as being able to declare you an enemy of the state. Hitler once said that, "Heydrich was cold hearted." Yet Heydrich saved Jewish athletes and once said that if Hitler started to lose the war that he would eliminate Hitler.

The Europeans needed little prompting in processing the Jews as they were almost universally hated everywhere. . It seems that nobody likes God's chosen people. So it being a Nazi hate machine is laughable
