Putin did it. On purpose.

Wetwork, the American system is low pressure with elevated oxygen.

The Russian space crafts had stronger launch platforms for greater weight early on, they run closer to normal atmosphere.

Vacuum is vacuum, you don't go negative.

8psi, a hole by a 1/4" drill bit would not suck you out.

Thanks good to know..I bet syfy movies aren't as terrifying for you he-he..

I heard somewhere we spent lots of money designing and building a ink pen to use in micro gravity. The Russians just use a pencil. That always cracked me up even if it wasn't true. I always pictured some hairy guy saying "In Mother Russia, ve ooze dis." -WW

Yeah, graphite is something you definitely do not want floating around in your capsule or spae station. Last I heard, pens and markers work fine.

The "space pen" was NOT developed by NASA, but they love them. Anyone can buy one today, as always. It was developed by Fischer.

Broken pencil tips are not a good thing to float around in the capsule. The get into eyes, and electronics. And yes, the Russians buy the pens and use them.

I'm sure.

Kinda lucky to have him show up.

For me it is what he did before he became an astronaut that is so important.

Something every youngster would do well to heed.

Where do you want to go in life?

How does each moment you are in help you get there?

Which way in a decision that faces you help you get there?

I know this, but having a living example of dedication to something so few have done
is helpful. When I have a part of a design project I don't enjoy I'm inclined to find something else to do.

But that design project won't move on if I do so.

Now we know who the real 'pencil dick' is...

...and as they say over on the GJ, that would be some serious suckage.

I heard the story on NPR (so it must be true) yesterday that they used epoxy to fix it.
Ha! I win! SmileWavy

Food for thought: What’s the boiling point of JB weld in a vacuum?

The pictures floating around the web are of a hole on the inside of the space station. The hole’s on the outside. It’s not a single wall structure. So they can fix the leaks on the inside but they’ll have to live with the hole on the outside.

When I worked on the Spacelab program, we had a cooling fan assembly fail during a mission on orbit. The guy who I shared a cubicle with was responsible for this fan assembly, so I had a front-row seat to the resolution. When the Shuttle got back and he was able to open it up and troubleshoot the problem, he found that the fan was jammed with peanut M&Ms...

That's a historical tidbit M&M/Mars is never gonna use in any ad campaign. Whoops.

flipper35 09-07-2018 10:48 AM
