Redbox charging tax on military installations....
Stopped by the shoppette today, and picked up a Redbox. Charged state sales tax.
Called the 1 866 number and was told sorry and given a promo code. doesn't add up. Am I in the wrong, or the vendor?

I thought all non-gov concession/contractor sales were subject to local sales tax?
I can see the confusion if the vendor in question is located in/near an exchange/express/commissary though. |

It's variable.
One thing is AAFES, if you have a contract with them then no sales tax. You can sell on base without an AAFES contract as long as you are not competing with AAFES, then tax generally applies. Put another way, it comes down to who you are buying from, direct from the merchant or through AAEFS, who is the "brick n mortar".

It's been forever since I've been in the GNC, patriot, or game stop at the exchange. I'll have to stop in later and see if they charge tax.

Easiest way to tell, look for the AAFES sticker. GameStop almost certainly does not charge.
