E36 M3 is still on my short list. I have had most of the RWD cars listed above. I still own a built Miata and a tuned WRX.

I have a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX that is a roller skate, 4WD, Turbocharged, fully adjustable front and rear suspension, factory Recaros, 2650lbs and 225hp...its a great car to throw around.

Is it the sport model or the luxury model? Is it all wheel drive? If it is all wheel drive, would you have rather had just rear wheel drive? Has the 4 cyl turbo been adequate? Reason why you are getting rid of it so soon? (assuming that it is a 2017?) I would kind of like to get a Giulia for my daughter so that I can drive it. DL |
I have a new Mazda 3 Touring Hatchback that I really enjoy driving. Some days I prefer it to my SC.

Hey OP, what's your price range? |
Saab hatchback. Slow but fun. Viggen?

M3, either E36 or E46

I tend to drive very unrealistic (and unluxurious) cars, daily. My 993 is a daily. But to answer your question (not a Porsche...), this intrigues me:

Fun and daily driver are often at odds.

This was my daily driver in 1972. A 1965 yellow ragtop 327 corvette.
I got it for $1,600. Unbelievable. Came with a new black top and a deflated 4 man raft stuffed in the back. Why I am not deceased is a blessing. That car was fast. Very fast. The raft was a lot of fun with my co-workers going down river but I have had some real neat cars, but the 65 Vette and being a young man in his twenties was great memories. |
I have the Giulia Ti Q4 it has the sport seats and the 19"s 5 hole Alfa wheels... its a very nice car, love the looks, it drives great and rides well. The performance is on par with every other 4 door sport sedan. The lack of a manual trans is a real killer... it would transform the car. I like it, but it just isn't a fun car, I feel a manual and a bit of exhaust would change that.
I'd like to stay under the price of the Giulia by a good deal if I am not leasing... The less I spend on the DD the more I can spend on the SC and it's a Porsche to every part has 10X P-car tax on it. Your daughter doesn't need a 50K car ;) 323GTX's are sooooo cool, but they are unicorns. I have always wanted a BMW, I love the early 2000 330i But since my Alfa is a lease, I though I might have a chance of getting out of it if I got back into a Fiat. Honestly the Abarth is a smile a mile car. I also love the MCS, have always wanted one of those. Maybe I can put the car up next spring for a lease take over. |

I had a JCW back when they were new, sold it to my my 911 and regretted selling that car it was set up perfectly. 2 years ago we purchased a 2005 JCW and it was just as fun as I remembered it. My wife loved it. Except it gets 25 MPG and she drives 100 miles a day. The only reason we got rid of it was to get the i3. R53 JCW's are very hard to find. |
Old and daily driver and increasingly at odds as I get older. No car is worth bring in the side of the road in 15 degree weather.
That's one reason I have a BRZ as a daily. More fun than a BMW or 911, with none of the older car baggage and risk. Truly a win/win. |
When I look at the Mini, and Miata I sometimes feel I made a poor decision in buying my 911sc, the dollar to performance is just so terrible in the P-car world.
|
I'll be a serious buyer in a few years when the new more powerful Miata RF gets into the teens. More power, higher revs, simple and lightweight, Brembo brakes, BBS wheels, Recaro seats......yes please. Actually it sounds a lot like my current daily driver, maybe I should just stay put?
