My brother in Law is forgoing treatment with a favorable prognosis. I believe it is considered a case by case treatment plan. The majority of which a " wait and see" approach is gaining in popularity over surgery and corresponding consequences.

Got it. PSA numbers jumped. Finger revealed hard spots, biopsy confirmed the Big C. 68 radioactive seeds and 15 months later, my numbers have come down and are expected to continue to drop as seeds die off and inflammation decreases. Checked every 3 months now by urologist and every six by radiation oncologist. Remission odds were given at 90% plus. Hope they are right.
Not all cancers remain localized in tthe prostate and those that are metastatic can drop you pretty damn quick. Lost 2 close pals within a year and it was not pretty watching them go. Firm believer in a bung exam and PSA test for obvious reasons.

at 51 a routine exam found psa at 11+, a couple of months later at 13. For years it had been bumping around 4 which is the point at which some concern is warranted. Had the surgery nearly 15 years ago, now dealing with a recurrence. Had I not gotten the surgery when I did i most likely would not be writing this.
So, guys, get checked. Look at your history on the psa test. It is not necessarily the number but the rate of rise. And make sure if there is concern to go to a doctor who does multiple treatments. I was living in DC so I went to Hopkins. Find the artist, get a second opinion but don't stop testing

I was diagnosed in 2015 with prostate cancer there is a thread on here if you want to search . My PSA scores were gradually going up and my general physician was concerned . Fast forward to biopsy confirming cancer but every doctor I talked to said we caught it very early . I too went with seed implant with follow up radiation . Since then I have my PSA checked twice a year and so far knock on wood it is almost zero . Both of my parents passed away from some type of cancer so for me I took my diagnosis seriously . We are all born with the cancer gene , it's just a matter of if/when it activates . In my case I hope it never re-activates .
