Elissa Update
She is still fighting CF, and after being taken off the transplant list in Dallas over a year ago and then applying to all the Lung Transplant centers in Texas and not being accepted, life was not looking very good for us. She was placed on hospice care in November and it looked grim for her. Somehow she bounced back and was taken off hospice after 45 days and treated as a regular patient with clinic visits every month. We are now 10 months post hospice.
Monday September 11th we get a call from Houston and they want evaluate her on the next Wednesday for transplant. The center was very positive and encouraging......She has cultured positive for M.A.C. ( Mycobacterium Avium Complex ) years before and that is a concern. They may want to run a course of antibiotics for it she if she test positive. The course could run 90 days, but again she has not tested positive for years and is test every month. Her Lung Function Test is up from 26 to 32 which is good news. She enjoys time with friends and going out on our boat. Life is starting to show some signs of a positive direction. Houston is only 3.6 hours from door to door. |
Gary if you make it Houston for any extended time for tests/treatment please let the board know. There are several of us here in the Houston area that I will speak for, we would help you and your family in any way we can.
My kindest thoughts to you and yours. |
Thanks for the update. Always hoping for the best.
And here I am complaining about the weather... |
I'm up the road, as are a few others here.
If you need to bug out and need to have someone look after anything on the home front just call. |

Elissa' story is always both sobering and uplifting. The strength and love in this family is beyond description in mere words. At least by this man.

Let me know if cheese or bratwurst would help. If so - I’ll send those too! |
Great news! Please keep the updates coming.

You both have worked so hard, and given her a life far beyond 'expected' life.
I would wish that for everyone. When or if a transplant takes place place I hope it takes successfully. She is born fighter and medicine will hopefully catch up. Best to you and yours in the meantime. |
