Whatever Happened to Band Turkeys

We have generously supported school band fundraisers for our kids and now grandkids but I just told my grandson we probably can't help this year. Their fundraiser this year is band "mattresses" ?? Over the years we have bought much stuff (mainly candy, etc.) but I think mattresses are a bit over the top.

This was posted on the NextDoor for our area:

"Do you need a new mattress? Then you're in luck! My daughter is in the ..... High School Band and they are hosting a mattress fundraising event on Saturday, August 18th from 10 am - 5 pm in the high school band hall. Big name brands at up to 50% off retail prices. Plus free delivery anywhere in the continental US and free haul away of your old mattress. Print off this picture or save it on your phone and you can save $50 on any set over $399. Just show this picture to the sales team at ...... High School on Aug 18th. You don't even have to live in ...... to participate! Orders can also be made online."

I may be wrong and it could be quite successful but this is certainly a new approach to fundraising ! I bet Harry Dinkle would never consider letting the Westview High "Scapegoats" give up selling band turkeys..

We used to do "Mr. Z's Pizzas."

Mattress is a little over the top. What's next?

I hate all the fundraising.

I support the neighborhood kids because my neighbors support mine but most of the stuff, discount coupons in particular are a waste as either we don't eat at those places or they are too far to be useful

The latest trend is them (their parents) hawking the stuff on the community Facebook pages.

Personally, I'd rather write a check once a year and be done with it.

If I wrote a check directly to the school for half of what I spend on the solicitation the school would still see more of the money since there is no rev share.

We do 10lb sacks of Vidalia onions for our middle school band. Don't do high school band. College band is self funding.

It has been a long day, but when I first read it I saw mistresses not mattresses.

(just a guess)
Someone's dad sells them for a living.
He's got a bunch extra in stock.
Two-fer: Call the reduced prices a 'donation' to get rid of unwanted inventory and make money for the band without spending a personal dime.

I don’t know about band turkeys, but I know band chickens are a real thing.
