Any hot rodders out there?
By that, I mean, non-Porsche.
I keep getting tempted by gems like this, available a couple zip codes over and on the market for a long time. (No affiliation, don't know owner, HILLARY! has not paid me to post this.) There's also a place up in Mt Vernon WA that sells musclecars and usually has some cool stuff on consignment. Which is maybe where this car will end up. This car has a lot of nice parts, and could never be duplicated for the price he's asking. I'd pull the 350 and stick in an LS. Then I'd take it bracket racing. Assuming I could convince my wife that (a) there was any way this could be regarded as practical, and (b) I need another toy.

I’d love to have something old and cool. My first car was older than I was, a ‘65 Chevy impala 2 dr. I’ve always had a soft spot for old American stuff. I’m in Roslyn Washington amd there’s a pretty ‘59 El Camino in town that when you drive past looks like it’s towing a trailer with a couple of jetskis or snowmobiles on it (I’m looking at the car more than the trailer). I thought that was pretty cool, but today noticed that it’s not towing them and it doesn’t have a trailer hitch, but still very cool. When I bought my first Porsche years ago, I was considering something like a ‘67-72 Chevelle or Malibu with a crate motor, fuel injecton, AC, disk brakes, upgreaded suspension and wheels/tires, etc.... Then I realized that for $13-20k, I could have a 911 which would be a much better vehicle.

I think they're cool, but it's a slippery slope.
I personally don't get the rat rod crowd...

Here is my hotrod:
![]() Lightened it up (removed the hubcaps). Stock is 48ish hp, but with all the work I did to it, I am up to at least 50. So lighter and more powerful than a stock bug. Vroom vroom!!

A hot rodder wanna be here.
I hot rodded some volkswagens and 356s in the late 60s/early 70s. My Speedster still has a very non-stock engine in it. I can see myself in a mildly rodded 'merican sedan from the mid '50s to late '60s

Nice '57. Love the Tri-Fives. Definitely a Hot Rodder. Grew up with Street Rods and Street Machines. Here are some old pictures. Might be in the market for a '56.
![]() ![]() ![]() Here I am getting the car ready for a car show. Like my socks? ![]() ![]() Loved that car. Pictures of the '56 are from the late 70's.....Had a Lift off front end. 350/4-speed....4.11 gears....Purple Hornies side pipes. Sounded great. Good family memories going to car shows.

This car has the type of subtlety I like in a hot rod.

First time at the track with my Nova. Only time out without a hood. I just did not have one. It has moved on and now I have an S10 with fat tires and a SBC.
![]() No good pics of the S10. |

I think that's the problem a lot of people have. They just don't realize that even a freshly restored old car is still going to drive like, well, an old car.

Yessir, that 37 Ford was a Slantback. It had a 302 in it. It was easy to drive. I drove it to my Senior Prom.
