Another NASCAR thread
Last week someone started a thread about the sub intellectual NASCAR racing due to the carashfest at Vegas. Well, they should have watched Richmond. Short track racing at its best. 400 laps, 2 cars spin out (no crash) and 1 unscheduled caution for the whole race. Just good clean racing. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...es/driving.gifThat is why I watch.

I don't watch to see the crashes but they are interesting. They are going to happen so might as well look. But it's the re-starts that make things more interesting. I think that's why NASCAR runs 3 heats now. Nothing worse than a clean short track race after the cars get strung out on the track and it's hard to follow who the leader is w/o the scoreboard. Just a bunch of flies circling around a pile of dog poo. Now don't get me wrong, in all these NASTY car threads I support stock car racing.
The can get rid of Daytona and Talladega AFAIC. Or run part of the road course as has been suggested. Too many crashes with plate racing. |
I think to some degree the safe walls and much safer cars have put the drivers in a position that they can drive these cars like bumper cars at the county fair.

I dragged a longtime g/f to a Richmond race years ago (she had NO interest in going), and she was HOOKED....attended quite a few afterwards. I had to dump her a few years later when she won BOTH Twin 125 race pools down in Daytona though :) |
I'm not the normal NASCAR fan, I actually try to watch the road courses, and believe that one should be in the final 10 race playoffs.
Short track racing is usually a crashfest, but it seems that plate racing has taken over. Iused to watch when the race had recognizable superstar names, now, I am unfamiliar with half the field. |
What changes to these cars would be needed to let them run on an F1 course?
|
The run at Watkins Glenn (former F1 track if that counts :-)
