Speaking of BIL's

Mine is a fairly Narcissistic individual.

The latest drama.

It's my FIL's 80 next year.

My wife and her sister are planning a family cruise to Alaska.

While talking about it tonight my SIL revealed that her husband had also (Unbeknownst to her and without discussing it with her first) invited his parents which ticked my wife off. So I said fine, I'll invite my parents too. :D

Then my SIL informed my wife that we will be flying into Anchorage instead of Seattle as we had originally planned because BIL wants to do a Salmon fishing land excursion.

It's like WWlll around here.

My wife, rightly so is livid.

Flights to Anchorage from TX and FL (inlaws) are double what they are to Seattle.

Worse, no non stops from FLL which means 10-13 hours travel for my 80 yr old FIL with the bad back who can barely walk. :(

Guess I'll be having a conversation with BIL tomorrow and informing him that if he wants to go fishing with his dad he's going to have to figure it out on his own and meet us in Seattle for the cruise.

I really despise when people only think about themselves.

Often the alaska cruises will have day excursions for fishing... wife and I did a half day on a boat with another couple when we were stopped for the day in Ketchikan (sp?)

Damn, I am going to have that tune in my head for the rest of the day.
And it's early!

admittedly. i have a very unhealthy "hair-trigger" when it comes to family.

i need to get over it. i would post up the cruise departure time/date. everyone is an adult..get there. if you miss the ship..eff it..more overcooked lobster for you!!

i am assuming of course, that the cost is on your own.

Who's driving this car? Seems to me that the SIL, BIL and FIL are the family unit here and your closest connection is that your wife is a sister. Do your own thing and meet up with them. Do something with your parents another time and leave the others out of it.

Or whatever. Just don't spite them.

My SIL, (my wifes sister) and my wife are driving this. It's their father.

BIL has the same familial connection as me. As in he has married into the family. He is my SIL's husband, not brother. The father that he wants to go fishing with is HIS father, whom he invited, along with HIS mother, to a family event for my wife and her sisters father, without even discussing it with his wife prior.

Me inviting my parents was a sarcastic response to hearing what BIL had done.

Gotcha.

1. Is the date of the trip ........ during a time when the salmon are running? Otherwise he should totally go get a salmon at the market, as mentioned.

2. I looked real quick and it seems like round trip Alaska cruises from Seattle are more expensive, so....

Does the price difference with an Anchorage cruise offset the flight difference enough?

I imagine a roundtrip cruise embarking in Anchorage is a fuller experience as far as 'seeing alaska' goes.

Maybe the Florida team could do an overnight layover for FIL.

Seems like your BIL has no group situation awareness.

The difference in cruise prices is negligible with the line they have picked. Both originating points make the same stops.

The difference in flights is significant.

It's enough to cover a separate balcony cabin for the kids, which we are doing.

IMHO, much better use for the funds than accommodating my BIL because HE wants to go fishing.

And it's less about the money than it is about the lack of consideration.

Because he wants to do something he just decides for everyone, without any consult, that that is what is going to happen.
