Chef's, how do you dispose of old fry oil

Fried taco shells the other night, now I have a bowl of old oil I don't know what to do with (happens every time I deep fry anything). I have been told poring down the drain can clog the pipes. Dumping it the garbage will make a mess of he garbage can. I suppose I could dig a hole in the yard and dump it there.

Unfortunately I don't have a diesel that will burn vegetable oil.

You guys who fry a whole turkey, what do you do with the bucket of oil you are left with after Thanksgiving?

Put it in a gas can and leave it in the back of your pickup truck.

Peel a potato and drop it in the hot oil. It will soak up any off flavors and smells and you can store the oil for later. Used to do that with my peanut oil for turkey frying. Keeps up to 6 months.

Find a friend with a restaurant. I have friends that bring it to the restaurant and dump it in our grease container.

Yeah some people have a pit in the back yard where they dump all their used oil...

I used to keep old liquid containers from the grocery (milk, bleach, laundry a dish soap) to put it in then put it in the trash. Now we have a burn pile for brush, etc and I use it for an accelerant.

I filter it through a coffee filter and keep it around to use later. Lasts months. Usually get 8-10 uses out of it. When it's gone off or it's too dark to use it gets poured into an old spaghetti sauce jar (or some other glass jar) and into the trash it goes.

I was thinking the same but couldn't find a old zip lock.

I like the milk carton idea, hopefully we haven't thrown them all out (today is trash day)

Note ad dated 1963... if you get caught doing that today (very unlikely) you probably get hit with a big fine.
Most auto parts stores will let you dump motor oil for free.

Having said that my first house had a pit, the driveway ran all the way into the backyard and there was a pit about two feet wide and three feet deep with a gravel bottom. I never used it.

I take my old used turkey fryer oil and put it into empty oil or anti-freeze jugs . Then take to local parts store and dump in their waste oil tank .

(motor oil)..but, but, it's organic?

With cooking oil, just pour it into a glass container until it hardens to a paste.
Use as free high-temp cooking for a few days or a week.
Toss after that.

If you have many many gallons of volume saved up and it's worth some stranger spending much gas money and time on, put it on freecycle or craiglist/free or contact some local biodiesel manufacturer.

I don't deep fry often, and when I do get an accumulation of used vegetable oil, I make sure its fairly free of solids, and dump it in my home heating oil tank just before I get a fill up.. the filter and water separator ( which I added as an extra) catch any gunk.. and anyway one or two gallons mixed with 200 gal of heating oil.... never had a problem and been doing it for years.. I do own a diesel truck but and have mixed it in the trucks fuel.... but z i like the lesser concentration in my home heating oil..
