Porsche is building a new "Moby Dick"
Cool. It's not exactly a 935/77. It's an homage to Moby Dick.
A longer version, but still no speech https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/a23496316/new-porsche-935-moby-dick-rennsport/ Quote:

Finally - wheel fans are making a comeback.

Mark Webber helping to announce this car at Rennsport today. Was too far from the stage to get a pic of the actual car.

Cool car but the front end looks like an R8.

Cool project! But it looks like some body panels are forced onto the modern shape. Like that guy who tried to put a 911 body on a boxster chassis. I'd rather have an aircooled chassis recreation than this ...
I love how these low volume creations are a "privilege" to buy as one of their "best customers". Totally NOT me. Even if I had the dough, I'd not do it out of principle. G |

The original was ugly, but the eye of the beholder changes because it was successful in racing.
A remake, well, it needs to reach that same success, otherwise it will just be ugly. |

If you just saw one for the first time like I did, and did not know what it was, what it had done, then it would great the eye as ugly.
You perhaps do not have that perspective because with your age and knowledge you might have first seen it dominating races. |

I don't think it's targeted at anything pro. I suspect it's targeted at folks that want to take their car to a track day or DE. I assume that means if you tried to take it racing, it would be in some sort of unlimited/prototype class, but then I don't know all of the rules, so I could be WAY off.

I think this car is aimed squarely at .1% collectors. The vast majority will never see 1000 miles on their odometers. And it's basically Porsche playing catch-up to all of the new professional re-incarnations.
I give them an A for effort but it really doesn't capture the essence of the original. Overall it just doesn't work which doesn't matter one whit for the intended audience.

If I had REALLY ridiculous disposable income (think Bill Gates monopoly money type rich), I might have one, but then I'd probably have to already have a Carrera GT, 918, 935, old RSR or IROC, etc....
