Updated my iPhone 8 with iOS 12 😡

I usually never update my iPhones, as I always have problems.

Anyway, I finally updated my 8 after numerous requests asking to update. So I did. This time was no different. 😡

Now when I try to use the telephone app, it freezes and takes several minutes to start working. I can’t switch between recent, contacts, etc. Then it’s ok.

But later, it’s back to freezing.

It’s the only thing I can see that is not working right.

Anyone have the same problem?

Any way to go back to the previous iOS?

I've got a 6 plus. I don't think there's anyway that I'll be upgrading.

jyl 10-04-2018 08:57 PM

I updated my 6. No issues. Apps seem to load a little faster.

Arizona_928 10-04-2018 09:01 PM

Just crushed my 6 plus. Not available with my current provider.
Was able to walk out with a new 6 + from my local Verizon.
Something is different... Must be the update

dan79brooklyn 10-04-2018 10:08 PM

Works fine on my 6s. But I don’t use the telephone.

Works fine on my 8.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-05-2018 01:20 AM

6s+ no issues.

masraum 10-05-2018 04:18 AM

good to know

gr8fl4porsche 10-05-2018 04:28 AM

No issues using 12 on an 8+.

gr8fl4porsche 10-05-2018 04:30 AM

Forgot to add, Verizon had a carrier update along with the 12 install. Maybe it’s a carrier issue?

Yorkie 10-05-2018 04:56 AM

Updated my iPad with iOS12 it’s now irritatingly slow at loading pages. Hate it

My old iPhone 6 Plus did the same thing. A new battery fixed it! It was suggested on this forum that my phones freezing and lack of touch screen could be caused by an old battery. BEWARE - back your data up - your phone will be "cleaned" in the process. At least mine was, at Staples.

You sould have gone to Apple for the battery fix. I need to schedule an appt for a battery replacement.

Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 — from $79 to $29 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, available worldwide through December 2018.

dennis in se pa 10-05-2018 05:39 AM

Staples only charged $29.99 for the battery and insertion.

GH85Carrera 10-05-2018 05:54 AM

I have a 6S. No issues at all and I use it a lot. I do have lots of memory capacity left. It is a 128 Gig phone with over 60 gig free. I use ForeFlight for hours at a time and it just plugs right along.

Which is what Apple would have charged. I wonder if Apple woud have wiped your phone. I guess Ill find out when I get off of my rear and schedule an appt.

LakeCleElum 10-05-2018 06:56 AM

I always wait a few months to update. Give them time to work the bugs out.

Just did the mail in battery replacement from Apple for $29.95........What an ordeal.....3 calls with support for 30 to 40 minutes each before we got it set up.........That's what I get for living over 100 miles from an Apple store....

mepstein 10-05-2018 07:05 AM

I just replaced the battery at the Apple store $29 and updated the phone. Before I updated, I made sure I had a current backup and then wiped the phone clean. Now my 6+ works better than new and wiping it before the upgrade got rid of a lot of artifact memory that was taking up space. I backup to my computer and iCloud. When you restore from the computer, it takes minutes.

Nice. Maybe I'll try that route, backup, wipe, upgrade, restore. I'm surprised that that the restore doesn't also restore the issues that were causing the problems.

Just keep giving Apple more money for the latest/greatest iPhone, I have a bunch of stock and my kid needs to go to college some day.

And remember, the new iPhone is TOTALLY different from the last iPhone:D

David 10-05-2018 10:22 AM

I had a 6 and saw no need to upgrade. Battery life seemed to deteriorate so I had an Apple store replace it. I still had to charge it during the work day . Then it started intermittently not connecting to Verizon. I had a new SIM card installed. That didn't fix it .

So Verizon made me a deal where an 8 was the best price for replacement. I reluctantly agreed. Then I realized the 8 allows for a wireless charging! A quick look on Amazon got me a charger for home and office for about $15 each. Then I was happy :D.

I've had a series of iPhones since they were introduced, culminating with an iPhone X that I've had for three months. I've never had an issue with a software upgrade; large or small. If anything, the biggest gripe is how long the updates take sometimes, but that is relatively minor.

masraum 10-05-2018 11:18 AM

I've had very good luck with my current phone which is also my first Apple phone. I've had this phone for about 2.5 years. I don't plan to upgrade, but I do plan to get the battery replaced.

A930Rocket 10-05-2018 07:26 PM

I’ve only had the 8 since last December. Battery life isn’t a problem, although I use it all day. My last phone was a 4S, so I tend to keep them a long time.

I went through the settings and deleted all kinds of old artifacts, but I’m only using 1/3 of my 64 gb of storage. Got rid of some seldom used apps too.

I’m tempted to back it up, wipe it clean and start over. It seems slower since the update.

I did the carrier update at the same time.

I’m no tech but the way I understand it, is it restores the data but not the glitches. Well, not usually. When I had windows computers, it was pretty standard procedure to reformat, reinstall or update and then reinstall data to get rid of a problem or virus.

I had thought about getting the latest iPhone but mine is working so well, I’m not going to spend the $1k just yet.

A930Rocket 10-06-2018 07:11 PM

I finally erased and reset everything as a new phone and set it up manually. Downloaded my favorite apps. Everything works like it should. Including the telephone.

The only thing I can’t restore is one app that would take a picture and send it as a jpeg, pdf, etc. I have the app, but not what was stored in it. Not a huge problem.

wildthing 10-07-2018 06:59 AM

I upgraded my SE a few days ago. No issues, though I don't think I've made a phone call on it recently.

+ Nice battery usage graph and detail
- can't see that Bluetooth is connected

That is all.

A930Rocket 10-07-2018 09:15 AM

After wiping it out, I thought it was be the iOS program it came with, but it’s still ios12.

So far. So good.

RKDinOKC 10-07-2018 10:47 AM

Got a 7plus, update everything automatically, it's on 12.0 Just works.

Recently got a text from Verizon. Told me I could upgrade to unlimited voice/text AND DATA for $60/mo.
Paying $55 for unlimited voice/text and 3GB data. Have never gone over the 3GB because am mostly on wifi.
Went ahead because the cost was actually only $4 more after taxes etc AND put me on a rewards program that gives me $5/mo can apply to my bill.
Seems to me like Verizon is giving me $1/mo to go to unlimited data.
