I dont understand the people who make a new account just to bid on your car and not pay for it. What do they get out of that?

Exactly. It’s called ethics and integrity. If you don’t like eBay, don’t use it. But if you use it to find a buyer...then cheat to avoid paying eBay, that’s called stealing. That makes you a thief. There’s no logical way to rationalize stealing. I’m surprised so many here would do so. Lesson learned.

Shill bidding. If I can't have it. Neither can you.

Or buyer's remorse.
Or they found a better deal locally
The list goes on.

I personally was going to go to CA for a genie for my deep well. Then one popped up on Craigslist for a few grand less and half the hours and only 200 miles away lol.
The eBay guy was mad but understand, and was grateful I let him know instead of ghosting him.

I have bought that way, a local cash transaction.. the item was glass $35 and didn't want to risk shipping. Not sure if seller paid fee's on his end, but I needed that thing really bad and didn't wan't another broken one, a kinda rare lamp / lens.. .
Ebay can tell whats going on. Heck they are probably reading THIS message.
Hi Ebay! Love ya!

That seems about right.

He proposed we transact outside of Ebay which will save me some fees. He has outstanding ratings [for transactions within Ebay] so I can trust him on that accord.

Moral dilema. Wouldn't Ebay catch on if I just decided to close out an auction shortly after I posted. Clearly they would be able to see the 'counter offer' banter.

If you are doing something that you need to hide from e-bay, doesn't that raise any red flags?

Wrong is wrong.

I have no sympathy for eBay wrt vehicle sales. They do not enforce anything when it's a vehicle sale. But they sure will slap those insertion fees on you when they miscategorize your listing so no one can see it. And then getting a live person on the phone to discuss and fix it is no fun either. So having my motorcycle tied up for a few days when a guy hits "Buy It Now," then is slow to respond, doesn't pay and finally says he's changed his mind, well, I don't feel guilty doing a deal outside of eBay then.

If E-bay sux, then don't use e-bay.

If you make them a (legally binding) promise, keep it. IMO.

to be fair, you used their platform to sell your products, if not for ebay they would not be sold.
you owe ebay the commission.
