fixed my lcd tv with a bit of scotch tape
my 5 year old TLC 48'' TV was working ok
but this morning decided to double up the picture every body had 4 eyes and two noses yuck! so I went on the net to see if there was a fix I have fixed a sony tube but HD wega tv by replacing chips [with u-tube guides] that was a 10 buck repair but required de-sodering the chip and replacement so this time the fix was free a sliver of scotch tape on a ribbon cable most lcd/led tv's use common construction and layout I see instructions for other brands and try one for sanyo [TLC makes screens for them] there are two ribbon/cables one controls each side of the tv picture located on the bottom center of the tv under a metal plate so if you unplug one you get 1/2 screen the good ribbon side will be clear and crisp the bad one will be doubled so on the outside edge of the bad ribbon connection place a sliver of tape you have to try several sized tape bits to block the doubled input on the wires my second try got I lucky with a 1/8'' sliver on the bad wires that only blocks 2 or 3 wires but got rid of the doubling we will see how long that fix works but you can't beat free fixes you can do yourself |
I fixed a Sanyo 60" a few years back by replacing a control board, but it only lasted a few more months. I've had better luck with a Denon AVR, soldered in a fuse last year after losing the display. It's still going strong. After the experience with the Sanyo that went bad right off warranty, I buy TVs from Costco with the extended warranty.
