Congratulation to my 'honorary nephew'.
A son of my deceased best buddy, Matt Horner. Thus the 'honorary nephew' bit.
He just placed second in the elite 10 ball division of the Western BCA championships. "Elite" because only players with a high skill ranking were allowed to sign up. It is a true Western USA championship event. Some Canadians also entered. Matt sent a Canadian snooker champ to the loser's side of this double elimination tournament. The snooker champ was a deadly shot maker, but not as good as Matt with the break shot and cue ball control. He's quite happy with coming in second. You see, although "amateurs", all many of these highly ranked players do is play pool. There's a very fuzzy line between pro and amateur in that game. Matt has a construction job. Schedules his vacation time for the area major tournaments. It's very difficult to be both a working stiff AND a highly skilled pool player. Hell, it's very difficult to be a skilled pool player...period! So, for a couple of days of pool playing, Matt pocketed $1,350. Here's a pic of him playing that I have on file...
