Kydex.

i have been searching for a holster for my .22 handgun. i bought something that isnt super prolific in the rimfire handgun category, so buying a holster off the shelf was impossible.

my brother's friend blurted out, "i can make you one".

done deal. i left my handgun with my brother for six months. it didnt take that long, but it took that long for me to revisit Texas. i dont get back that often.

i think it came out cool as heck!! ive never really given a lot of thought about Kydex. i googled it; i think i could have done it DIY.

That's pretty darn cool, Vash. What is it that you are hiding in there?

That is cool.

I haven't used Kydex for much over the years as I have a fondness for Milt Sparks products, however I did just buy a modular system for Aliengear that a coworker has and really likes.

I like Kydex myself. pretty neat that it can be DIY'd.

here's a double layer Kydex I got from a custom place-http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1539737279.jpg

Looks like a Browning Buckmark. Which model, etc. would be based on barrel, sights, how far that rail runs if it is integral, etc. Nice pistols, I have one. Also have a Ruger Mk II.

Good eye!

It’s the Contour model.

I am not sure but I think repeated holstering of your gun in a kydex holster might scratch its finish.
Quality kydex knife sheaths are made so the blade does not come in contact with the kydex too much, preventing scratches.
Maybe worth checking.
It is a nice looking holster though!

For an EDC wear it’s a huge concern of mine.

vash 10-17-2018 03:27 PM

yea. i got that.

i only holster this thing for a week a year. i hope that is okay. for the most part, it goes inside my backpack.

911boost 10-17-2018 04:05 PM

Oops that was supposed to say not a huge concern....

I've been using a Kydex holster for several years. You can reshape it with a hot hair dryer if it seems to be catching on a part of the pistol or gun mounted light. Mine initially had the hard plastic belt clips that dug into my sides after long days of wearing it. I took it to a shoe/leather repair shop and had them replaced with wide strips of leather for better comfort. I also added a thin, dense piece of rubberized foam on the side that contacts my hip and had the leather shop glue and sew it in place. I've been wearing it every day for about 3 years with no problem.

I like the wide belt attachments on that. Very sturdy and plenty of room to mount it just where you want.
