Skunk epidemic?

The little f_kers are everywhere in my town. I can’t walk my dogs around the block after dark without seeing one or two. Dogs got sprayed for the 2nd time since labor day tonight dammit!

If I could discharge a firearm around here I’d be hunting and killing them but its not an option. Anyone else in suburbia notice a bumper crop of striped stinky rodents in your ‘hood?

There have been a lot of them and turkeys around my hood. Maybe try walking the dogs in the morning.

Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap is the magical mixture for deskunkification of a dog

Pretty bad in this area. I see them about 1/2 mile from here a lot. The smell gets to my house from time to time.:eek:

They are prepping for winter, out foraging longer hours and seen during the day more often.

I thought maybe this was a thread about Canada's new pot laws....

They're not rodents. They're mustelids, related to mink and otters.

If you have skunks, it is because there is a good supply of insects and other yummy stuff to eat.
The hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and warm water is our go to for pets who have made the mistake of threatening skunks.

Make lots of noise while you're walking :D

This is my second season in this town, and I didn’t notice so many last year. It’s definitely an ideal habitat. Lots of food, densely populated but spread out just enough to provide lots of little hideouts for Pepe to make a safe den. No natural predators either. I’ve not yet seen one of them flee when I approach. These are “stand your ground” skunks. I’ve seen one who stuck his stink parts up towards me from across the street “don’t come any closer bro, this thing is loaded and I’m not afraid to use it”

Luckily last nights spray on my dogs wasn’t so bad, as the critter didn’t deliver the entire payload. Back around labor day my dogs were free in my yard and cornered and killed one - dogs were hit badly.

Last night the skunk was dining on food intentionally left out by crazy cat people for the strays...and rats, skunks and other vermin. My dogs were on leash so the whole thing went down <6ft away from me. I was hit by “shrapnel” and now my suit has to be drycleaned.

Thanks for the education, learned something new today. I assumed (incorrectly) that they are big stinky rats.

Last night my cat was going crazy wanting to go outside. I clicked on the light and there was a little skunk about 10 feet from the door.

I made some noise and he wandered off ways, maybe 20 feet?
I tried to scare him away but he was having none of it.
He acted like that was his yard.
I didn't know what else to do so i went inside and let him be, and tried to calm the cat down.

I knew we had skunks around but this is the first time I've actually seen one like that.
I've got a feeling this isn't going to end well.

Yup lots here in Toronto, dog got sprayed last month. Last Thursday go out in the yard and the dog has a raccoon! Shaking the hell out of it! Told her to drop it and the raccoon ran off , but I’m sure it was trying to figure out what just happened to it. 🤪

I wonder if the coons and skunks ever go at it?

We had a big skunk in our yard that was keeping the dogs inside. My daughter and I tried to shoo him away. When that didn't work, I went and got my son's BB gun in an attempt to get him moving along without injuring him.....every time I hit him (about 10 times) in the butt, he did a circle and grunted, but didn't leave the area.

I then went and got the shotgun, and blew him clean across our creek (a good 20' away), unfortunately, we had to smell the rotting corpse/broken scent gland for the next week.

for us here, it CROWS!

i get hundreds of them flocking into my neighbors trees. they all start cawing and flapping..it feels wildly nerve-racking. they went after my cat the other day.

i cant shoot them. even with a silenced pellet gun, the carcasses are a problem.

Tobra 10-18-2018 07:18 AM

A week ago I was walking the dogs, and a skunk walked across the street and went like 10 feet from us, cheeky bastard.

Worse epidemic I ever saw was back in '99....Maritime Hall, San Francisco...

I see very few around here though ....we send 'em to Raleigh and DC :)
