I need to bond a fiberglass hood scoop to a steel hood, any advice ?

Im going full retard with my tow truck project. Ive sourced all the parts to make it go again'
I already have to do some metal/body work to the new hood , and I now have to paint the whole truck. I'd like to add a 4 " z28 scoop while I am at it .
I did one before when I was a teenager. It turned out alright, but cracked in a years time.
Should i attach it with rivets and bond with glass/mat?. Wonder if fusor would work here ?
Im all ears

I used sikaflex once to bond fiberglass fenders to a unibody car.
I was young and dumb.

The bond between the two was insanely tough.
Just a thought.

Edit: this stuff

I know there are panel bonding adhesives that are correct to use, but I was going to recommend 3M 5200 similar to Sikaflex. Both are polyurethane adhesives. Once they cure they ain't never letting go.

Lord Fusor 380/383 works great... or you could mix up some West System adhesive..

At any given time there is a 944 on craigslist with a scoop.

(personally- I'd go rivets!)

Inspiration scoops:

3M panel bonding adhesive

https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Panel-Bonding-Adhesive/?N=5002385+3293241847&rt=rud

You can usual sheet metal screws to hold it in place while the adhesive cures. Then back them out, fill, sand and paint.

Can you install the scoop with screws and still have it look good ? Kind of how some fender flares are installed . That way if/when you develop stress cracks you can unscrew , repair and install again . I'm not convinced it has to be bonded to the hood .

Of course I could, but I want to finish, paint it , and look like it was factory . Screwed on hood scoops and flares, are for race cars ! I've got the whole winter to monkey around with it.

I have used Lord Fusor and 3M to glue Corvettes together and both are damn good. Once bonded the part will not move. The Lord product I used was sandable so no bondo required.

another vote for 3M panel bonding adhesive

if you want it on there for the rest of your life - 3M 5200 also works like a charm. It has a longer setup up time though.

(also known as F the next guy adhesive)

Never done this but your question made me think about it. I would be sure that you get your adhesive all the way to the bleeding edge of the scoop so that there is no separation there to show up as a crack in the filler.
