Where do you hide your fire extinguisher?

I can't keep a fire extinguisher handy in the house. MrsWD thinks they are ugly and she doesn't want to see them. When I put one out in a logical place it ends up in a random cabinet somewhere. I need a place where it's out of sight, but always there. At least I can find it even if no one else can.
Anyone else have this problem?

In my shop and barn I keep one about 10 -15 feet from the door. Others are closer to where I do welding and torch work. I like knowing exactly where they are and I keep inspections up to date.

big giant one right by the back door that leads from kitchen to garage.

ugly, but i like knowing they are there.

I have mine mounted to the kitchen cabinet door under the sink. Get a black and silver, or whatever would fit your kitchen scheme (white/black, etc.) and put that on the door, to remind you and others where it is.

Like this sticker, but change the colors to fit your kitchen

or disguise the extinguisher

Nothing noticeable in the kitchen.
One right inside the pantry door, one right inside the garage door, two in opposite corners of the hangar at the airport.

Under kitchen sink and next to wood stove. In the shop they ar at each door.

My friend is a fire chief in one of the Dayton suburbs. He said don't keep the extinguisher next to the door. Keep it inside a few feet, keeping in mind you might need it to get out.

We have cabinets and counter tops along two adjoining walls. Between them, along one of the walls, are a set of French doors that go from the end of one set of cabinets/counters to about two feet short of the adjoining corner with the others. The other set of cabinets/counters, on the adjoining wall, stops about two feet short of that adjoining corner. This makes a perfect little cubby for a wicker basket that serves as our recycling bin and, above it, hangs the kitchen fire extinguisher. It's all but out of sight, but very easy to get to.

Oh, and in the garage and basement, I must have seven or eight of them, on every post or bare spot on a wall. I don't want to have to go very far to grab one.

I have one on each wall of my garage. I have one in my basement workshop. I have one under the sink in the kitchen.

Sure. Near an exit seems like a logical place for fire suppression devices. I dont work with open doors, but yes, make sure you can access the device, its not in the way... :)

Under the kitchen sink...

Our kitchen is not huge so just a step from the stove...

I have mine in a wine chiller crock right near the Wolf.

dad911 11-07-2018 02:38 PM

Near where you are, so you can get to an exit. Those small extinguishers will not likely put out a fire, unless very small & caught early. I keep one in the Master bedroom, one in the basement, one in the kitchen.

Two big ones in the pantry on the shelf. 5’ up and on the left as you walk in.

I've watched fire guys refurbish fire extinguishers. The most important part, it seems, is to turn it upside down, about annually, and beat the inverted base of the extinguisher with a rubber mallet. This loosens the dry chemical which has settled at the bottom of the unit. The dial tells you whether you have compressed air pressure.

Maybe I need to check mine, even though they are only two years old.

Of course, I’ll have to take them out of the box first.

Next to the coffee machine. I always know where the coffee machine is.
