What is this Corvette worth - in your opinion?

For sale by my oldest brother in Virginia. It's actually his wife's, I guess. Thanks for any input!

Shortly after I married Judy I had it painted in the original color by a custom shop. It was in very good shape but I wanted it perfect and it is. Check out the reflections. I also had new carpet and upholstery. We could not find the exact factory upholstery so went with a Buick upholstery that was almost the same. I also did a real good detail myself under the hood and all.

Baz - I recommend you go on BaT and take a look at what those have been selling for to get a good idea of value.

I had 174,000 miles on my 87 when I sold it for $4800 three years ago. Everything worked and the drivetrain in great shape. Problem is, there are too many out there. My buddy bought a very nice 50,000 mile 94 for $7000, for reference. Location does make a difference so the Va market may be better.

Garden variety C4s (especially the early cars) with a digital dash have not aged very well. They have a reputation for significant chassis flex from new, which often leads to rattling on top of being an automatic and built in the 80's. I'd imagine the automatics were better than the pre-6 speed manual trans'd cars. So, not very much...like $5-7k? The current owner will likely be disappointed.

Those cares were HORRIBLE. I owned a 90 I bought with 17 K miles way back when.

Going into my old neighborhood there was a rise in the pavement to make the streets meet- when you turned in, the body would flex so badly the dome light would come on, since the doors would move so much in relation to the frame due to twist.

Various electrical bugs, finally solved when I yanked the battery to see there was a junction for power distribution that was held by a single 8mm bolt that had come loose.

Leaky t-tops due to seals that compressed and failed early.

You would have to want that car due to novelty, and frankly they're kind of a POS. I'd pay $6K as well, simply because that's a unicorn.

PS the cars that are going up in value are 80's early 90's z28 / IROC cars with the 5.7.

Still a wet noodle but they have aged much better.

I thought about doing something like this but to an IROC vert...Nasty.

I like Vettes but as others have said they will need to find someone who is really into the retro 80's thing.

Kinda cool for what it is...

They cant give these cars away and most sell no reserve

As a result of my bad Corvette experience, I'm now in the market for a C6 Z06.

Now, that's a REAL Vette.

I read through the posts and nobody said it was a bad perfomer.

What other car is less than 3300 pounds, has 300 hp, and 4 tires 275mm or wider? Not GT2.

I personally need the wide tires so I can run soft compound and have them last 12-14 months.

I'd say $7k to be nice, because it has a NASCAR sticker

Vipers have hit bottom and are beginning to rebound, some say they are a good investment.
Not for me tho, for everyone else

Problem is so many owners have been sitting on them hoping to cash in, they are now stampeding towards the auctions to dump their prizes.
I figure another 10 years they'll be worth good $$$.

Put on a couple of flying-eagle-in-front-of-flag-with-gold-stars-with-USA and it would look perfect.

Ultimate redneck car.

I always thought it would be a fun project to put a roll cage in one and try to tune the suspension.

I understand that the front clamshell and the rear glass can be quite expensive to replace.

I hope I'm not distracting from the topic.

Nope, Viper is too heavy. Good attempt!

GT3 and GT4 have skinny tires.

Looked up TVR and Spyker. Skinny tires.

Love the old Corvettes.

Thanks for all the replies and input so far.
Some other details about the car:
  • 5.7L (350CI)
  • Std Automatic
  • Has original Bose Stereo with rear amplified speakers
  • Removable Hard Top smoked Lexan roof
  • Runs perfect
  • No idea on top speed. I got it up to 130 before running up on traffic
  • Added Michelin speed rated Pilot tires a few years ago. Still like new

I think my brother and wife are in denial a bit about what the car can really bring. They are asking $12K.

I think if they get $8-9K they will be doing good.

You never know sometimes about selling cars - sometimes the right buyer comes by at the right time and his buttons are pushed...bingo! I think that's what they are hoping for.

At least it has relatively low mileage for one that old. And is in very good condition.
