I Live on Mars Now :(

Some of the roads around my house opened up yesterday. It was an eerie scene. Armies of utility trucks lifting power lines, CHP and sheriff everywhere, Red Cross vehicles and donation stations, and people wandering around where their houses used to be like the walking dead. The Hill Fire started right in my community, but we were completely unscathed due to winds blowing in the opposite direction.

Here is a picture of what it looked like a few months ago and what it looks like now.

Clarification, the X is or was where your house is/was located?

MMiller 11-25-2018 04:12 PM

Just wow...thanks for the pics. I guess...:(

Cool pictures, but if you want to see Mars, go to North Dakota.

It's like that all the time.

At sunset it is most convincing.

The word that comes to mind has already been posted.....sobering :(.

Best to you all...

Is, fortunately.

masraum 11-26-2018 03:28 AM

I'm glad that you were fortunate enough for the fire to miss you.

berettafan 11-26-2018 04:07 AM

Hope you did not suffer smoke damage. That can be miserable to deal with as well.

sammyg2 11-26-2018 05:06 AM

Might I suggest you move to a different planet that is more conducive to human habitation?

Baz 11-26-2018 05:47 AM

Glad your home was spared this time around, Craig. Very scary!

Reminds me of my visit there in 2003 and visiting the Regan Library in Simi Valley - every surrounding hillside was brown from the fire storms that fall....

That is in the works Sammy, but fires are not the main reason. Planet California has a plethora of scary ways to force evacuation of retirees.

Understood.
Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids,

I think David Bowie had a song about it. Maybe if you painted the dead trees blue, or maybe pink it would be better, looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie, but the sky is too blue.

That ghia still looks pretty rust free, Thom, you need something to occupy your time?

Maybe if it was a lowlight...

Really sad pictures. Difficult to really comprehend the devastation.

Those hills will look a lot flatter after it rains a few more times.
