Can anyone ID this old door mirror?
Cleaning out storage, putting stuff on eBay, finding some random items. For some reason, I have no recollection of where I got this mirror or what it’s for. Says “Made in West Germany” but could be for a Volvo or (?)...

Are you sure it is an MB mirror?
The three holes is unusual

I'm thinking that's not a door mirror but rather an above windshield or dash mount mirror. The key is the mounting base's small size and three screw holes.

Not sure at all. I'm perplexed at this point.

Maybe it is off some wierdo Messerschmitt mini car or an Isetta?
Isetta uses three screws, it looks like, for the interior one

I'm hoping someone here recognizes it. The depth of random knowledge on this forum never ceases to amaze me.

The part was made in Germany, but not necessarily for a German car brand. The part is marked as made in Western Germany, not West Germany. The western part of Germany still exists but the country of West Germany is fortunately a relic of history.
The error suggests that it was either manufactured relatively close to the end of the war, before Germans exporting to the US got universally fluent in translating German to English and might have stamped a part "Western" Germany. Or it was manufactured in Germany for an American company and the guy responsible for marking parts was an American who didn't differentiate between "West" and western. For what it's worth, I think the translation error has the vibe of an American who didn't know better rather than a poor German translation, I'd expect Germans to know the name of their country, even in English, but I could be wrong. I also agree that it's more likely a dash-mounted rear view mirror. Did anyone manufacture a British or Italian car in post-war Germany that was exported to the US or could have been brought home by a GI?

Maybe it's for a speedboat. I have no idea where I got it.

I'm curious as to why am I so curious about this. Hell, I've gone so far as to get on ebay Germany to see if I could find a similar one. Nada.
Might be best for me to just wait until someone recognizes it. _

Looks like a MB 190 SL dash mounted rearview mirror

FWIW, I don't think that it's a dash mounted rearview, since the stalk is offset. Dash mounts have the stalk in the center of the mirror body. Definitely not a 190 SL.

West Germany became a nation state in 1954..before that it was occupied into 4 zones. Western Germany might denote that it was made in one of the 3 western zones. The fact that it says "made in Wester Germany" indicates it was made for export to the USA as that "made in" is the standard for imports into the usa after 1924.

Certain features indicate to me that it is from the 1960s or even very early '70s.

Most definitely not 190SL.

And the stalk would almost certainly be perfectly vertical.

Some early 60s VW beetles had an offset rearview and mounted like that one. Might be an aftermarket like EMPI or similar.
