Any real world experience with DSG

Looking at used Jetta wagons.
Most of the FS ones are re-flashed-legal TDI's with the DSG.
Everything I've read says the DSG is a liability, expensive to repair, prone to mechatronic failure.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Never had any issues with my 2011 TDI Sportwagon with the DSG until I turned it in when it had about 100,000 miles on it.

Loved it in normal and sport mode.

Just change the fluid and filter every 40K miles.

And then get the Kerma Tune

Thanks John - so zero negative experiences?
That's good news for me.

I once drove a loaner '06 2.5 l Jetta with the DSG. The car had signs of being "rode hard and put away wet". It had about 280,000km on it and the transmission was amazing.

I think that's the key. the fluid is pricey, and you need VCDS.

I owned a 2006 VW GTI with the DSG and it was great when moving but gave me several "pucker moments" when stopped and waiting to turn left in front of traffic. It had a hesitation after throttle input that was about a second or so. Had it checked out by the dealer and drove several others and they did the same thing. Never got used to it so moved on.

I have s ‘09 GTI with the DSG, I’m now at 150k without skipping a beat with regards to the gearbox. It shifts quickly, downshifts with rev matching - quite the gearbox as far as I’m concerned.

I have followed the service schedule religiously, maybe that’s the key.

We service a bunch of these at my shop. They're very good if serviced, that's the key

Service is very expensive at the dealer, I know because they did an estimate for me before for the 40k service thinking I had a stickshift ... Are sticks not updated / legal? That's what they told me buying back my TDI stick, that there was no fix for the manual.

There are a few TDI Golf Hatchbacks and Jetta Sportwagens' at my local dealer with the emissions fix and a manual gearbox.

2015 Passat just had its 40 k service, oil change, filters, DSG service was $768. Not great, but not horrible in today’s pricing

They offered the "fix" on my manual.

I just finalized the deal today for a 2014 Jetta Sportwagen.
Most of the units I looked at, and drove (6), were just coming off the first lease, and all had the TDI re-flash. Mileage ranged from 12,000 to 28,000. VW wont'n sell them as CPO with over 30,000. (varies with dealer)

FWIW, I was told the Golf Sportwagen is the same car as the Jetta, but less headroom, due to a different roofline. I test drove both, and the Jetta did feel bigger.

Pricing from $17,900 to $14,750 - depending on mileage, equipment, and trim level.

Great car!

Don't worry about the DSG, just follow the maintenance schedule with it and it will be fine. If a TDI can't go wrong with a tune from Malone.

Cheers

That's very tempting. I'll have to keep that in mind.
