Reasonably priced car shipper?

Anyone know a good, covered shipper, looking to bring a car from Colorado to LA. Called Intercity they want $1500, seems high.
Thanks in advance

Reliable, Mayflower, United van lines.

Hate to tell you but that is not a high price for an enclosed transport shipper these days w the cost of fuel. Most open transport prices are in the $1.00 a loaded mile range right now.

Thanks for the helpful comments, the others, well, I guess your issues are not confined to just politics.

Might want to post questions like this in regular OT next time. The tone and number of possible respondents is a bit different.

mrbeverlyhills 12-06-2018 07:18 AM

I thought I did but I guess I was laughing so hard at DaveE's latest trump is stupid memes I forgot to go back to OT.

Speeder is more up to date in practical terms, but I am shipping a car soon so I have been doing some legwork:

Call, don't give any of them your email or your inbox will get overwhelmed.

Thanks Seahawk, I got a $698 quote, covered, from:

Intercity was $1500

I may just fly out and drive it back.

Yes, I am so sorry for taking 12 minutes to respond; some of us have a life, which then intrudes on valuable time spewing rubbish and insulting one's betters.

Something called Turbo Pro posted this and then must have deleted it:

Given the quality of cars driven by the liberals on PARF (Mad Duffus 924, for example) I wouldn't want to pay $1,500 either. Maybe if to strap your Yugo to the back of a passing train you can get it here cheaper.
Sad to see this kind of response, symptomatic of the politics of hate in DC currently. Glad though you could summon the moral fortitude to then delete it.

Oh no, you replied after that.

Poor manners, tsk tsk. Poor stock indeed.

PARF is a strange place where a bunch of really mediocre people think that they are smart and rich. If they have an average amount of $$ in the bank and a mortgage, they think they are ballers. And anyone who doesn't share their politics must be poor. It's bizarre.

I've used J&S Transportation in the past and have been very satisfied with their service. They're not brokers...they own their own trucks but will sometimes contract out business that's outside their normal routes. Stay away from brokers...you'll be getting calls and emails for months afterward offering to ship your car.

Make sure that whoever you use will keep the car on the truck for the whole trip. Some outfits will split up the distance and your car can be unloaded and reloaded from truck to truck several times before it reaches its destination, risking damage each time. There can also be a time delay while waiting on the next truck where your car can wind up sitting in a storage lot for a period of time.

^^^ thanks, getting a quote now.

Thanks to electronic logging, LTL has gone up substantially. Where I used to pay about $1/loaded mile for a flatbed I'm now up to about 1.60/loaded mile. Drivers want to minimize stops so they look for full loads rather than piecing together three or four pieces.
Not sure how many miles it is but for an enclosed hauling just your piece $3/mile seems about what the rate would be.
Just looked and if it's in the Denver area going to LA (1016 miles) $1500 isn't bad on a single piece for an enclosed trailer using an insured hauler.
