Random Vintage Racing Thread

So IDK about "destroys" but this Goodwood XK driver looks like he really wanted that win!

Thanks for posting that. As an ex E-Type owner I have much respect for the way he drove. Much quicker hands than I have.

I think he almost destroyed his Jag, his engine (overrevved downshifts) and a couple of Cobras. But he had some awesome brakes. There has to be at least one dent somewhere.

Good thread idea.

All car racing in the UK is of the leave brain at home variety. No-
one pussyfoots around.

Do show.

First rule of vintage racing, don't trash your million dollar car or anyone elses.
He didn't pass anyone, they just moved out of the way to keep him from running into them. I wouldn't be surprised if he got his ass kicked in the pits afterward.

I did like it when he hit the apex that one time.

In my opinion, Goodwood had very entertaining racing this year.

Was a brilliant display of people willing to risk WAY more money than I have.
The four wheel drift control, lack of aero, was mesmerizing to watch corner after corner, lap after lap.
I was surprise at how few cars were damaged.
Worth watching!

Having watched racing in both the US and the UK I can assure you that the Americans are just as determined. If you ever want to see "leave brain at home" watch Figure 8 racing.

Seen SCCA and also PCA racing especially at Sebring and it is tame compared to any meets in UK.

It's like local stock car racing - only in million dollar vintage cars on a road course. That's insane unless the purses are HUGE.

And this looks like the same battles shown in the OP, with most of it filmed from outside the cars... note the #1 Cobra lifting the inside front tire in the turn between 1:55 and 2:00... as well as between 2:44 and 2:50... and there's a slow-mo segment showing the Cobra clipping a corner barrier at 3:36...

Most if not all the races involve professional well known racecar drivers and car sharing with the owner.sometimes.Eveb the sedans cost a fortune to preparedness in pro race shops

Yes, it is amazing to see the big names in some of those cars (and on some of the bikes as well). Goodwood is no low-key, enthusiast owner/driver vintage race meeting. This is very serious stuff - serious bragging rights at country clubs we can't even afford to drive past...

Cobra looks like it's losing coolant or ? at 3:20 or so... but not later...

^^^ Look for the Jag spewing sparks out the right front wheel in the waning moments of that video... possibly used up his pads?
