Fantasy Replacing Reality

https://komonews.com/news/offbeat/missouri-poacher-ordered-to-repeatedly-watch-bambi-12-17-2018

OZARKS, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri poacher has been ordered to repeatedly watch the movie "Bambi" as part of his sentence in a scheme to illegally kill hundreds of deer.

David Berry Jr. was ordered to watch the Disney classic at least once a month during his year-long jail sentence in what conservation agents have called one of the largest deer poaching cases in state history, the Springfield News-Leader reports.

Court records show he was ordered by Lawrence County Judge Robert George to "view the Walt Disney movie Bambi, with the first viewing being on or before December 23, 2018, and at least one such viewing each month thereafter" while at the county jail.

I would assume that the Honorable Judge George hopes that the repeated viewing of Bambi will somehow enlighten Mr. Berry. This hard-hitting docu-drama is certain to provide Mr. Berry with some much needed insight into the animal world and the impact upon it of cold-hearted hunters like himself...

There is no underestimating the crazy of the politically correct set.

Judge should have made him watch this instead. NSFW due to language

Seen Bambi lately?

I have, and the hunting scenes don’t glorify good hunting techniques but instead show indiscriminate shooting at every living thing and in the wrong season to be hunting deer!

Tervuren 12-17-2018 02:11 PM

I thought Bambi was about a forest fire.

Dumb people should not be allowed to be judges.

Douchebag poacher, don't see the problem. Not against hunting, against idiots.

onewhippedpuppy 12-17-2018 05:07 PM

Wrong forum.

speeder 12-17-2018 05:20 PM

A poacher? They should just hang him by his nuts in a lion's cage at the zoo.

He's lucky for politically correct judges.

LWJ 12-17-2018 05:27 PM

Damn poachers came through my family homestead land when I was hosting a Boy Scout campout.

Hunting bears with dogs.

Wish I did something to powerfully demonstrate my rage. Didn't. Probably for the best.

onewhippedpuppy 12-17-2018 05:29 PM

You guys should come visit this region. Because of overly restrictive regulation of hunting seasons the deer are absolutely everywhere. During the rut season you see them everywhere on the side of the road. They are basically oversized vermin at this point. I’m not advocating for poaching but it’s not like we are talking about bald eagles here.

wdfifteen 12-17-2018 05:56 PM

The guy got a year in prison for poaching. Is the additional punishment of watching a movie once a month really so horrible?

HardDrive 12-17-2018 06:14 PM

Higgins, can I get you to re-tell the story of your friend winding a rabbit in Juanita with a deer rifle? I swear, I laughed about that for days. Still do.

dafischer 12-17-2018 06:20 PM

Almost, heavy on the almost, reminds me of this...

Maybe a more appropriate hard hitting picture on parental loss the judge should be forced to watch is Dumbo.

And no, you can't be a judge.
You aren't even smart enough to follow the forum rules.

C'mon, Jeff.

Judges can do anything they want. Or so it seems.

Gogar 12-17-2018 07:38 PM

How much is a deer tag?

The punishment should be 3x, 5x, 50x the price of the tag, per animal. Or something.

Government understands money. Leave the precious animals morality out of it.

chapo 12-17-2018 08:23 PM

Maybe if hunters didn't shoot predators the deer would be in check. Not sympathetic.

chapo 12-17-2018 08:27 PM

Maybe if the hunters didn't shoot the predators all would be ok? Like nature?

KFC911 12-17-2018 09:08 PM

I retrieved a few of my game cams earlier today....I set them all in video mode.

On one...(recorded early Nov)....I had the coolest clip....right in front of one....in the deep woods....a doe and two of her full size Bambis....the doe and one were nuzzling...cleaning each other....for the whole 60 second clip...so cool :).

Also saw a nice healthy fox....awesome too...

My rural property is an animal sanctuary for me...though coyotes and 2' snapping turtles aren't as welcome ;). Poachers suck :(

The problem is - some predators are indiscrimate in what they go after.

A two year old child, the family cat or dog, etc...

Think it through.

Several forum members have lost pets to predators.

A friend of mine that lives in Montana put it this way. Everyone loves bears and wolves on TV and in documentaries when they are in some other area. No one like them breaking into their house or car or killing their livestock and pets, or occasional human.

I have nothing against a few deer in the wild. When the numbers get so high that they are everywhere and people in cars are hitting them, they need to be thinned down.

And I agree, poachers suck. Make it really hurt financially for them, big fines, and confiscate the vehicle they were in, and every gun they own.

onewhippedpuppy 12-18-2018 07:52 AM

Just looked out of curiosity, in KS alone there have been almost 111,000 accidents involving deer over the last 10 years, with 71 deaths and over 6,000 injuries. During that timeframe, deer accidents represented over 17% of all crashes in KS.

KFC911 12-18-2018 10:06 AM

I think there were like 20k auto/deer accidents in just one year in NC a few years back. Hunting deer on Sunday has never been legal in NC until just the past year or so. Follow the money (as usual)...it is now (Ins. lobby). According to my uncle (bigtime woodsman/hunter) ...they are no more prevalent in "deer country" now than 3-4 decades...but they have thrived where not hunted. In my county 1 deer per square mile....WAY to dense. On my semi-rural land....more like 1 per acre....seriously. I know Vash hates me. It's my Bambi sanctuary...so don't even ask Cliffy ;).

edited: I thought wrong....20k is more accurate.
