Shark vacuum

Just picked up a shark vacuum (nv752) for $169 plus got my wife $45 in Kohl’s cash. She actually buys useful stuff at kohls like clothing so I’ll count it as real money.

Anyways we fired it up last night.

We are both absolutely stunned at the crap that came out of the carpet. Previous model was a commercial Electrolux. Always like the quality feel of that thing and for sure this shark isn’t quite the same but O M G does it get stuff outta the carpet.

Also very much dig how modular it is. You can pull the canister part off and carry it. Super cool. Very nice attachments as well particularly the hard floor thing. Gets the 1/4 round moulding nice and clean. Excellent design.

We have had a shark navigator lift away for a few years. Great vacuum.

Same here. A little $150 Shark Rocket. It's awesome. Been using it for 3+ years. Took the head assembly completely apart to thoroughly clean it a few months ago (why? because I'm retired and was bored one day ). Very easy to disassemble/reassemble.

We have a Shark also and always amazed at how fast the canister fills up. I usually rinse the canister and filters every 3 uses, very easy to clean.

Beretta, why did you buy the vacuum so early? Now what are you going to get the Wife for Christmas?

The only issue I've got with our Shark is that the vacuum head is so narrow - it takes 3 swipes to vacuum the width of 2 swipes with a different brand.

Craig what’s your drying routine for the filters?

We are getting a lot of very fine dust in ours and it may need rinsing pretty soon.

I just rinse them and squeeze them like a sponge and let dry for a few hours. We have had the vacuum for a few years and never a problem. I am just amazed at how much it pulls up, I expected to have no carpet fibers left, the canister fills that fast!

We've got a Shark as well. Bought one for my wife's parents about 5-6 years ago and decided it did such a good job we needed one too. It never ceases to amaze me how much it gets out of the carpets. I've got two sets of filters that I just alternate week to week. Got tired of having to remember to put them back in once dry. Now just rinse out the dirty, slip in the dry ones and it's ready to go till next week again.
I used to let the narrow head bug me too, Mark, but I figure if it were as wide as the others the sucking action would be reduced on a per sq inch basis so it wouldn't work as well. I don't mind the extra few passes it takes to do the whole house.
Yeah, the fine fine dust is getting to the point I'll have to clean the cleaner pretty soon. I haven't washed the canister out with water just yet, but it has crossed my mind to do that. Making sure it's dry before next use is the worry.

Timely thread - my old Dyson literally broke in half yesterday. Will check out Shark vacuums.

We just got Bissell which is practically the same vacuum as the Sharks.

While it is amazing how much it's pulls up, if you get close to the carpet, I mean REAL close, you'll get OCD about vacuuming. It's pretty disgusting how much crap is there even on a seemingly clean carpet.

I always laugh how much wife comments on how dirty the wood floors get... The carpet does too, just hides it better.

So, do you all consider this to be the PORSCHE of vacuums?

If you want a vacuum that really sucks, check out a Riccar Tandem Air:

https://www.riccar.com/products/uprights/tandem-air-vacuums

It has two suction motors: one near the bag and one near the head. It's also engineered to be serviceable/repairable. Even the brushes on the head are designed to slide out for cleaning or replacement. It has an aluminum frame and commercial-grade motors. Yes, it's more expensive than a Dyson, but it also doesn't "wear out", you just repair it and keep going. When my mom's white beagle was in our black-carpeted minivan, it was the only thing that could suck out the dog hair.

Rainbow here. Might not suck the carpet off the floor but it sure is fun to empty the water and see all of what it got. Homes are dirty places. And mine is little used at that.

On the narrow Shark head, that's part of the suction ratio. Can't have a 3 foot wide head and have that kind of efficiency. Like using the end of the hose w/o attachments in the car. Gets everything on one pass.

One more thought and I haven't a clue: do you think that Shark has designed the beaters to set up some kind of harmonics? That would enhance the removal power in my thinking.

This. We have a Dyson ball and a Shark. I like the Shark a lot but wish the head wasn't so narrow. It needs to be maybe 3" wider.

The narrower head may be one reason the Shark sucks so well. We replaced a Dyson with a Shark a couple of years ago. It’s a much better machine. MrsWD bought one of the new ones with two brushes a couple months ago. It works fantastically on wood floors.
My job is cleaning the the machines. We have two sets of filters and swap them out, one in the machine and one being cleaned/drying. I take the whole machine to the shop every couple of weeks and blow them out real well with compressed air. Dust and gunk gets trapped in odd places, I don’t know how you could own one without a source of compressed air to clean it now and then. The nooks and crannies and internal screens that don’t come out are minor design flaws IMHO.
