Almost
Home.
Hoping on the plane in a few hours. It’s great to see family over the holidays but I’m done. Actually been done a couple of days already. It’s draining. The lack of personal space and not being completely in control of my schedule is exhausting after a week. 5 days including travel there and back is my limit. Merry Christmas all. Now gimme back my lawn. |
Orange you glad you are no longer in it 24-7?
Consider it inspiration. Give yourself a pat on the back. You earned it. |
I’m only good for 2, maybe 3 days max.

We are visiting my wife's family. Atleast this time we are in a hotel and have my own vehicle.
Yesterday's drama was my wife already having plans to see her brother. Her neice wanted to make dinner for us. We later found out that she was crying... Leaving today! |

When my Dad was alive he would stay for four days or more, always in a hotel with his own wheels. I would save jobs for he and my son to do on the farm, buy him tickets to a show for he and his wife in DC, etc...and I really loved the guy. If fences make for good neighbors, hotels and rentals make for good family dynamics... |

This year was great, about 24 hours spent at each family site. Perfect.

We made up a half-truth to not have to go to my sister's this year. It would have been 11 people with 4 of those kids under 10. NFW. SmileWavy

We go to my parents house for thanksgiving with family. 2 days and I’m back on the road.
We stay home for Christmas. Always have. |

I have an expression I've used for 30+ years
"fish and company stink after 3 days" We did a lot of visiting my folks (5-6 hours away from us) when they were alive. We were dirt poor back then so we stayed in the guest bedroom. Day one was arrive late afternoon. Dinner and catch up on news. Day two we have a great time and dinner out. Day three we have to look for things to say. Day four is out the door very early in the morning. Mom was always busy doing things and never sat still but would complain if I dared call or visit a friend we knew (used to live in that town). The folks have been gone many years. I miss them but don't miss the travel and guilt trip from mom because we didn't stay for a week. |

Some of you guys have much more patience than I do, I can't stand competing agendas with big personality people. We did a week at a 6500 SF AirBNB in July near the Great Smokey Mountain national park with 10 members of our family. We were all frazzeled, and ready to go home.

I would give my right arm to be in you guys situation. Having family at Christmas time. Both GF and I got orphaned at a fairly young age. So very jealous of people taking their elderly parents out to lunch - or better still a family Christmas.
Sure, grass in is greener etc, but I am jealous. |
After a 5 hour delay and a fellow passenger with gas so bad the entire plane smelled like a flying septic tank for 3 hours I am on my couch in my home with a glass of wine and feeling fine.

Just 360 days to go.....Happy New Year :)
|
2 years ago, my wife’s parents stayed with us for 2-1/2 weeks in the summer and then 10 days over Christmas. They are both obnoxious and loud.
On New Year’s Day, my FIL asked what my New Years resolution was. I told him that I wouldn’t be spending a month with my in laws in 2017. This year was a repeat of 2016. They are here right now. We have a small house and it feels like we are staying in the guest bedroom at their house for some reason. These people would never consider a hotel or rental car. In 2016 my FIL made the comment at Christmas dinner that he had to put gas in my wife’s truck when he used it (like it was his vehicle and we brought it back empty for him). I drove it next and it was pinging like crazy - the cheap bastage put regular in a supercharged Lexus. They are sleeping in my 8 year old son’s room so we have his Raspberry Pi set up in the living room. Yesterday, one of the micro SD cards went missing and the in laws sat on the couch while we frantically looked for it. My FIL made the comment that my son lost it because he never put it away. I corrected him that normally it would be setup on his desk in his room and that it wasn’t put away because they had taken over his room. It’s 2 days max with these people. My SIL and her husband live in Scotland for a reason. My BIL and his wife who live 20 minutes away from his parents limit visits to once every 2 weeks. I have lots of stories... maybe a separate thread some day. My family drives my wife (and me crazy) too. |
Family is up at the cottage on the lake for New Years. I went up with my wife to open the cottage set the fire to warm it up plow the parking spots for family to arrive. Waiting for everyone to arrive I get a call from one of my guys. Snow in the city need to head home to take care of clients snow. Home by myself for the next two days. Happy new year to everyone 🎉
