Mid-engine CORVETTE?
I see lost of on-line chatter on the potentially new Mid engine Vette. I wonder what peoples thoughts on it were?
If they were not so common I would have had one instead of my SC.... The utter lack of go pedal is killing me.

The first year they are supposed to use the existing 6.2L.
Then they are supposed to switch to a smaller displacement with a flat plane crankshaft. I will pick one up as soon as it drops into my price range.

yeah, there are spy photos. Good thing as the current car looks like a transformer but performs like an f40.

There is "spy" video of them running in a lot of different places. Almost everyone is speculating that the C8 is going to be too expensive for an everyday enthusiast. Of course they will depreciate, but...

1) The mid-engined Corvette is substantially more expensive. This is certainly a realistic possibility based on the pricing of similar vehicles. 2) The mid-engined Corvette is in the same price range as the existing Corvette. It may be a little more expensive, but GM is very good at engineering cars for cost, even performance cars. 3) The Corvette splits into two vehicles: an affordable front-engined car and a more expensive mid-engined model.

The current C7s have great powertrains. Remove the torque tube and put the motor behind the seats and you have a win. Should not cost much more than any other new generation design. I keep cars a long time so I do not see myself owning one but I like the idea.

A great YouTube video from Sebring but at night. Sounds weird. Also, they have to go back to the drawing board because the electrical system will not hold up under lots of testing. New wiring needed for the complete car.

I hear you Rawknees, I think if I want a fast 911 I am going to go the boost route.... I am just not "mature" enough to appreciate low HP "momentum" cars.
I want a wide body fire belching beast. |

What I have read is that they are going up-market with the mid engine version and it will be a separate line from the front engine one.
I hope the guy that did the detail design on the body is not the same guy that did that on the C7. There's lots to like about the last couple versions of the Corvette, but styling is not one of them. There are times I think I'd like to own a Corvette again but there's always something about the car that stops me. Usually, it is some aspect of the styling. |

I have difficulty parking my 'Vette in the garage because I like looking at it out the window.
Different tastes I guess. I would not bank on depreciation of these new mid engine cars; cars depreciate when they are not the "in" thing. These could remain the "in" thing for a long time. Look at the Ford GT, Ford's release of a mid engine car. They are more than MSRP today. Now if people buy them as "investments" artificially increasing production beyond demand; then there could be a slump when the "investors" all try to sell.

I think this is a fair assessment of Corvettes. I say this having bought a C6 this past fall. For whatever reasons, the cars look better in person than they do on paper or a screen. Being able to walk around the car makes me appreciate it a lot more. Firing it up and driving it even more so. I’d be less excited about a garden variety Corvette as I think they all should be Grand Sports or better...but I’ve not yet warmed up to C7s much.

The overall shape is one thing, it's usually the detailing that lets it down. I'm not optimistic about what the rear end looks like. And I don't believe for a minute that the base price will be 70 grand, but we'll see.

Still, we're not at the final iteration yet. Mid engine cars are always difficult to style, there was a few decade period where good ones were made; but it seems perhaps regulations have broken that pattern.

I think the mid-engine Corvette design will take away the uniqueness of the brand. You can always look at a Corvette and know thats what it is. With the mid-engine design, I fear the brand design will be homogenized and not muscular.

Think the General will have some difficulty selling anything in Canada from now on.
Somehow Steve Millers (thanks Javadog) "Take the Money and Run" comes to mind...
