Dodged a bullet V 2.0 - 82 year old Dad

Version 1.0

Dodged a bullet - My 80 year old Dad wipes out his MC

Version 2.0

https://www.mcdowellnews.com/townnews/motor_vehicle/update-dead-injured-in-head-on-collision-on-nc/article_11fd0d04-ef65-11e8-b963-db946c04a0f8.html

My Dad's car is the one in the link. 2015-ish Accord.

Head on into a 1988 Dodge Dynasty which I believe is a full frame car. Dynasty was stopped instantly. My Dad's car fortunately was deflected and spun around a few times otherwise he and his girlfriend probably would have suffered the same fate as the fellow who veered into them.

Girlfriend spent a week in Asheville hospital with a split knee cap (repair surgery) and I think eight broken ribs. Old Man had something break on his pelvis on the back side but it was a self mender. Huge bruise from seat belt.

Buckle up and all hail crumple zones.

Pic from the other day.

Fantastic news that Dad and co. came through pretty well considering the possibilities.

Thanks. He's alive AND I can still give him a hug.

Called me today and he just became engaged to the lady in the pic. He was like a 20 year old with excitement.

If he was driving a K car the party would be over, I have to think. The wonders of engineering and a bit of luck.

Glad your dad’s ok. That car is trashed! Amazing there weren’t more severe injuries.

Front end is toast. Windshield is not broken. Cabin is intact.

Amazing.

Probably 100mph closure speed in the Old Man's crash. Top gear did a spot on the Smart Car hitting a wall at 80ph. Cabin was intact. Commentary noted occupant would still have died from blunt force trauma.

The favorable angle of impact and spin saved his/her life.

I should go to church more often.
