Drs waiting rooms full of sick people?

They all sound like they are about to cough up a swamp.

I feel like I’m going to leave here with something I didn’t have coming in.

Drs should have two rooms.

One for non communicable aches and pains and another for plague carriers.

It’s a business model.

Yea, you go in for a routine thing, and catch the crud from all the sick people. The doctor get repeat business and you can infect what ever unlucky other patient is there when you come back get what you now have. More business for doc.

That and the lack of consideration for your time (30 min+ wait?) is why I switched to OneMedical years ago, one of those boutique doctor deals... Same insurance, just extra $150/year.

I show up 3 minutes before my appointment, in a spacious waiting room that is generally *empty* because people are seen on time. I wait at most 5 minutes, doctors calls me in - done with minimal contact ;-) If my doc is not around that day at that time, I can see any other doc in the office (or the other office closer to work) and they all have my file... It's the way to go !

My dermatologist works that way. I have told him and his staff, they should have seminars on the right way to run an office. They want a patient to show up 15 minutes BEFORE the appointment time, to fill out the typical paperwork, update the records and make the co-pay. That usually takes 5 to 8 minutes. Go have a seat and most times within a minute they call me to an exam room. The nurse asks the same questions as last time, tells me to strip to my underwear and she leaves. About the time I am undressed in walks the doctor. He shakes my hand, looks me over like a USDA meat inspector looking at hides, zaps whatever new spot he does not like, tells me to come see him in 12 months, shakes my hand, and leaves. I get dressed, and back up front in time to make an appointment for next time. I usually leave about the time my appointment was scheduled.

And yea, I grew up in Hawaii, ran around with no shirt, no shoes, no sunscreen and was as brown as the locals.

Very cool but unfortunately my work doesn't cover One Medical :(

I feel very sorry for doctors.

All those years at Med' School, they finally get a paying job, and all they get to do is talk to sick and miserable people. Or worse still - old men who need their prostate checked :eek:

This is true. I was bio/biochem in college and therefore have friends who were premed and became doctors. Most of them hate it because they just see sick and miserable people all day long. And then there's the paperwork.

At my DR office. First thing; they hand you a face mask if you are contagious.

Seems like a decent solution.

Besides. That’s the point. You go to the Doc when sick. What else is there?

In some cultures, it's polite to wear a mask if you may be contagious to others.

Some form of dominance or something because he was wealthy?

as a chinese person..i am almost 99% sure they wear mask to protect themselves from each other..they are not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts if they are sick.

Yea, I am really happy some people become a "Digestive Disease Specialists" since they are certainly needed. But I can't imagine working with person after person and seeing their rectum and not the face.

I always thought my dermatologist did it right. Yea, he has some ugly skin cancers to deal with but it is mostly just skin he has to see all day, and his patients keep their underwear on. I wish I knew him well enough to ask him about life long nudists that get tanned all over. It may well be pretty horrible to look at the saggy boobs or other body parts of some 75 year old nudist.

I remember.the local doctor in the 1 horse town I grew up in. When you walked in it reeked of rubbing alcohol.......as in the entire area, every surface, ceiling and furniture with pure alcohol.

Then when you entered his office, a haze of cigarette smoke complete with a giant ashtray on his desk......

There is an old joke a about a guy and a girl doing nude sunbathing. Later, they go inside for some sex. He is more than a bit sunburned, well, everywhere. After the "session", he went to the kitchen, poured a glass of milk and inserted his sunburned "member".

The girl comes around the corner and sees him: "Hey! So that's how you reload that thing!"

When I worked construction with my father he cut a deal with a local Dr. to patch us up when we got injured (handled a lot of sheet metal and occasionally needed stitches.) He was a Korean war medic. I would walk into his office with blood dripping, the receptionist would drop everything and take me directly to a exam room and inform the Dr. who would also drop whatever he was doing to see me... he was almost giddy that he got to work on a real injury.

I know pediatricians that have two different waiting rooms for healthy and sick kids.

I like what I do, people are mostly glad to see my dumb ass because I generally do something that gives them relief. Gave a guy a shot for gout one time and I thought he was going to kiss me.

Nurse calls me in about the time I sit down.
They do have 2 kids waiting areas. normal germs, and runny nosed hackers.
