may add to the garden tractor stable

So I currently own a JD model 318 + 330 garden tractors , both run good . I had designated the 330 to be my worker tractor because of the diesel engine it just sips fuel . I have a Buford Bucket mini front end loader on the 330 it's a great rig but lacks power steering :( . The 318 has power steering but after mowing with it last year on our 2.5 acres she really likes to drink gas :D . So I have been looking for another diesel but with power steering . Three weeks ago a JD 332 popped up for sale somewhat locally , the 332 is exactly the same machine as my 330 but has power steering , dual brakes and rear lights .

She is no looker  as the JD's from that era were prone to flaking powdercoat paint/rust but the seller say's it runs good and has good bones for a restoration ....... which means it's in my price range ;) . Seeing that today is my birthday I have decided to go buy a new ( used ) toy :D . Trying to meet the seller around 1:00 so if the deal goes down I'll post a few pics of the rust bucket :D If anyone is looking for a clean JD 318 hit me up , she is in very good condition with low hours I just bought it last year . Tractor only I'm keeping the deck . SmileWavy

Congrats on the "new" find! I ain't lookin', but how much.....covered in mud ;)?

Yer deck (not included...understood)....what width do ya have, and how high can you raise it to mow?

rfuerst911sc 01-05-2019 04:04 AM

KC if the deal goes as planned the 332 will be 800.00 . I currently have two decks a 46 " and a 50 " . On either tractor the cutting height adjusts from approx. 1.5 " to 4 " .

KC I may have misunderstood your question , if you are asking what the 318 is selling for I'd let it go for 1200.00 to a forum member . I will ask 1500.00 outside of this forum .

Yep...I was curious about the 318. Does the deck on that one "only" raise to 4" also?

oops....nevermind...4" too :(

Yes per tractor data.com the range of adjustment is 1.5 " - 4 " .

Nice get. The diesel 318 is on my list too, although a 318 is too. :)

fintstone 01-05-2019 07:01 AM

That 318 is a nice machine. I would like to have one with the loader (bucket)...and maybe a few other attachments.

Seller just texted me his truck battery is dead he needs to replace it. I have birthday guests coming so tractor deal delayed to tomorrow . No big deal I keep my money in my pocket for one more day .

Well she is now mine and safely in her new home . While she's no show queen :D it starts/runs darn near perfect . Hydro unit is dry/no leaks and works great with minimal creep . Power steering cylinder not leaking . It came with the side panels just not installed . Seat is a disaster but dash lights work , the front and rear lights are there and the wiring is original so not hacked up . Time will tell but for $800.00 I think I found a diamond in the rough ;)

So I will do an oil/filter change and replace the air filter . Hydro unit will be drained and filled with Hygard along with a new filter . Will add an hour meter so I have a baseline to start with even though it's not original . Will drain and replace anti-freeze and then she can get to work ! :D

I love my 330

Just a few minutes ago, a friend called me and asked if I wanted his old Cub Cadet 1250 with a snowblade for $200......uh...yea !

I will add it to my GREEN stable, I currently have a really cool JD 214 set up for garden rototilling, a JD 955 with a 72" mid mower, and a 52" FEL, I also have a 1968 JD 300 industrial backhoe (same as a JD 2010 farm tractor), but with a heavier front axle, and better hydraulics. I use every one of them.

The CC will probably be set up with a garden plow, and be used at plow days where a bunch of us plow a farm field with our single bottom plows, behind our garden tractors.....lots of fun on a fall day.

Back in the day I sold IH Cub Cadets they were very well made. If I remember correctly a 1250 is 12 hp single cylinder Kohler with hydro transmission . Have fun with it .

Arguable the best/toughest/well built garden tractor ever built with the exception of the 1450, and the 1650. I have had several over the years, and the cast iron block/transmission, and stout steel frame with replaceable bearings, and many grease zeros make for long lives if taken care of.
I used to tractor pull a 1965 CC 100 with the rare round fenders. I bought it in 1998, and had to bore the engine out (only .10" overbore) for the first time after a lifetime of mowing. I then tractor pulled it for 10 years with no breakdowns.

Love that ^^^^^^^^

318 is great. I used to move a lot of snow with a blade, wheel weights and chains....If working after dark, some aftermarket LED headlights are the way to go....Loved the power steering when plowing....

LEAKYSEALS951 01-06-2019 03:05 PM

Nice score!

I really like those AG tires. I'd get a new seat, change the fluids, add the hourmeter, and call it a day. Congrats!

rfuerst911sc 01-06-2019 03:23 PM

Unfortunately when MTD bought CC from IH the quality really went downhill . I sold a lot of 1450's and 1650's back then , almost all of them with a front blade or snow thrower . This was in upstate NY where snow removal was a big deal . Man that was a long time ago !!!
