Dead and Co. Playing in the Sand...

Jan 17th to the 21st in Cancun.... anyone going?

Three nights of Dead and Co on the beach. I've never been to Cancun, its not really my kind of destination but back in Aug my girlfriend surprised me and got us one of the package deals. We're both Dead Heads. Looking forward.

As opposed to the $25 and I ride, I would need the proverbial Miracle to see them.

Turned down tickets to the last show Jerry played in Florida, didn't want to go to show and drive back to gainesville same night to work next morning. "Nah, I'll catch 'em next year".

You will have a fantastic time.
I did Paradise Waits a few years back with Furthur.
The closest you will get to a private concert.
Have a blast.

I am jealous.

Kids and I will be in the Bahamas the week before this so I can't take the time to do both.

Have fun. I’m jealous. Seen Dead and Co several times and it’s always been good. I like the fact they play within their means as opposed to trying to recreate something from the past. Very good.

There was a guy (couple i should say) that lived in town here for a while that knew Jerry. My wife used to deliver eggs (her mothers eggs actually) to them once a week. I went with her there once in a while (real nice people). Any way we were drinking a beer with them one day and he asked if we would like to meet Jerry as he was coming to visit. Said he liked to get away from it all and kind of hide out at his place occasionally. We said hell yeah. He explained that he (Jerry) didn't like crowds or people dropping by but if we happened to deliver some eggs at the right time......

We got the call but he said Jerry wasn't going to make it that week. A few months later they moved away

I have seen the current incarnation of Dead and Co about a dozen times. You make a great point. I like the fact they're not trying to be Jerry Garcia with the Grateful Dead. Sure they play the same catalog of songs but they have their own spin on things. In the years shortly after Jerry dies I took in a number of Further shows and, although I enjoyed them I couldn't get past other people trying to be Jerry Garcia. How could some of these guys even try to sing some of the classic Jerry ballads. After I learned to let that go and stop longing for the past I enjoyed the shows a whole lot more.

The Fare Thee Well shows were disappointing. For the first time in my life I was shut out of mail order which was a crime and I was no way going to pay the prices that tickets were going for on line. I watched one of the shows on a live feed and I just didn't think it was that great. Fast forward to Dead and Co. I had dropped my son off for summer camp a few years ago. He was going to be away from me for 7 weeks, the longest time we'd ever been apart. Feeling kind of empty I decided to jump in the car and drive to NYC to scalp a ticket to Dead and Co at Citi Field. Glad I did, really enjoyed the show.

Looking forward to going to Cancun. Will report back !

I was at a festival in Puerto Morelos in December; it was pretty fun! I bet you'll have a great time.
