I’m going to whine now

I have a cold. I hate having a cold. I feel miserable but I know I’m not going to die, so I must soldier on. I hate that. I wish I could be sick and get sympathy and a handicapped parking pass and good drugs but no - “it’s just a cold” so I have to suck it up and keep going. My head feels like a bag of wet, dripping sawdust and I have a cast iron PowerGlide sitting on my chest. My nose simultaneously feels like a clogged sewer while running like a busted pipe. Friends and my beloved wife all have suggestions to make it better. Thanks, but massive quantities of vitamin C just make me poop like a goose in addition to all my other miseries.
My mom used to put a Vick’s Vapo Rub on my chest and under my nose. I think it made me feel better, but maybe I just liked the attention. Now, I have hair on my chest and under my nose - hell, I have hair IN my nose. Vick’s sounds messy and I’d have to put it on myself. No attention.
Right now I’m getting by on a glass of cheap tequila and some 110 octane chili. So far it has me feeling better. I Don’t know why Mom never thought of this.

Peppermint tea with honey lemon and rum or schnapps.

I've been sick as a dog for a week. Whining is acceptable.

Tis the season Patrick. Just got over one that lasted for weeks...wife too. Every plane I get on these days is a viral incubator. How can one stay healthy when you’re sandwiched in the blubber of two fat people both with colds?

Sympathies.

I usually buy a bottle of Benadryl and that stops the symptoms for me. According to recent reports, I may get dementia from it but I hate a cold as much as you do and I can't stand a runny nose.

I forgot to mention that I have BPH. Cold drugs that dry up your head also clamp down your prostate. So I have a choice, breathe or pee. I learned from hard experience a few colds ago that it’s better to pee.

I'm a firm believer in Zicam - or any quality generic that uses the Zinc compounds to coat your throat. I use it at the first sign of the sniffles/cold and usually knocks it out within 24 hrs. I normally use the throat lozenges that you suck on/chew although I have used the nasal swabs as well. If you haven't tried them - I highly recommend it.

That achey all over feeling is your white blood cells trying to stop the cold. Drink chicken broth, not the low salt kind. Something in it helps the white blood cells focus only where the problem is and not wonder all over your body.

You have the Man-Flu. We don't get sick often (unlike those weak little girls), but when we do get sick, it's 10 times worse than any female illness. That's why we're allowed to whine and complain at the first signs of sickness.

Man-Flu. It's a scourge. There should be more government funding to support the eradication of Man-Flu.

Rum or whiskey, honey, lemon and a non caffeine tea like Celestial Seasonings "Tension Tamer" that has chamomile and mint. It's like a natural NyQuil.

The other thing is a Neti-pot to flush the sinuses. Trust me, you'll be jumping' and jivin' in no time!

Goddangit, I am coming down with one as I type. Dry and itchy throat. Come morning, I will be fked. I have a friend that swears by Zicam. I will have to drive out now to get some and give it a go.
