Personally I found my C63 to be one of the most laugh out loud fun cars that I’ve owned, and a damn good “normal” car when you weren’t feeling like getting in trouble. Lots of journalists list the normally aspirated “63” (really a 6.2) V8 as one of the best internal combustion V8s ever made. The newer turbo 63 models aren’t nearly as charismatic though they are much faster. I’ve been keeping an eye on C63 prices, they get much cheaper and I might pick one up.

I'll have to drive one sometime. I had a couple of friends who had them when new, they switched out of them fairly quickly and I remember one of them being really glad to see it go. Said that it was really powerful but a "ridiculous car." He has never said that about any 911 or other higher performance car.

I have a 1999 C43 AMG. Gets my vote for best all around sedan. Last vehicle (W202) designed and specified to legendary Mercedes Benz “forever” build quality.
20 years old and trouble free. No shortage of technology, either.

That's interesting and congratulations. The C43 was a great looking and driving car but the ones I've seen at my friend's shop were as far from trouble-free as it gets. Major, catastrophic mechanical issues. Sad, because they are cheap and have the best seats I've ever seen in a sedan, IMO.

That's not the point, if you need the power a gentle tap on the loud pedal gets you moving, you don't always have to drive it at 10/10ths

You would never drive it at 10/10ths. No one here has the skill to do that. As for tapping on the pedal, an E350 wagon moves smartly down the road and keeps up fine w better acceleration than a 3.2 Carrera. What's the point of a 600hp station wagon that needs $3k brake jobs and $1500 in tires every 12 months?
And before you tell me that I'm just a pischer and that it's for big ballers, I know people who could buy a new one every Friday and donate it to the food bank. They don't have one. Very few people want the car in the OP. It is cool, I'll give you that.

I cross shopped pre-owned E63/E55 AMG wagons vs. a new CTS-V wagon several years back. Ended up with the Caddy. Because manual transmission, and because hot rod 550hp Caddy wagon with 3 pedals is the automotive equivalent of a unicorn.
I don't know how spacious the recent crop of MB wagons are, but I will say that the CTS-V wagon was barely more useful for hauling around stuff than the 928S4 that it replaced in my garage. Hopefully the Benz is a better cargo hauler, and hopefully it has a larger fuel capacity than the CTS-V. Those 2 were my only gripes with the V-wagon.
It was a fun vehicle for a year or so.

That was a very cool vehicle and I remember when you ordered it and picked it up. I also noticed that you were done w it after not very long and it probably cost you a pretty penny to own for that time. There is one on BAT right now w low miles.
