Ting - Caution
 

Just switched from AT&T to Ting for the sake of spending less on iPhone calling & data expenses. Signal strength of Ting on same iPhone used with AT&T service... it blows, significantly. Where I could make a call from anywhere in my apartment with AT&T, I now have to be in one of 3 specific places or forget using the phone. Advice = if you're in business, Ting is not a good choice IMHO.

If you're using a low cost carrier other than Ting, please comment on your carrier.

My area has always had issues....forever, due to cell tower usage....all the major carriers...it just depends. I recently switched my phone from AT&T towers to T-Mobile (new SIMM), as they were my options...problem solved. Been hit-or-miss at my house forever (Verizon too)...I had to dig the solution out of them...ask Ting if they have alternate towers in your location. Good luck...

I am with a great low cost provider imo....works for me anyways.....Consumer Cellular....just a happy customer....now :)

I have a Tracfone. With roaming enabled it uses signals from several suppliers. I almost always have a signal. No extra cost to do it. Not much of a phone person so I do not need the latest and greatest Iphone.

This is a cell tower coverage issue (bandwidth mebbe), might not be related to signal stregnth. I've endured it since Flip-phones, 2g, 3g, 4g, etc...comes and goes.....it's gone now :)

A friend of mine said he gained 5 pounds after switching carriers. Before he had to run to his front door and stand behind the front door to talk on his cell phone. After the change he could sit in his recliner in the middle of his house.

There are days when my cell signal is weak, and some it is better when I sit in my office chair 4 feet from a front window. AT&T and iPhone have a feature to use my wireless router as a connection. With that set up I have a strong signal anywhere in my house. Some people get bent out of shape because they have to essentially provide their own cell tower. I figure what ever works, and does not cost me more money.

At my former office we had a all metal building. It almost a Faraday cage. We had hundreds of customers over the years have trouble with connections to their carrier. Every possible combination of cell phone brand and carrier. They all had to go to the front foyer to get a signal. We had to put in a AT&T add on router for us to have a signal. We were all on AT&T and had to log on once, then it connected automatically. The only issue was being on a call and walking out to my car, the signal dropped off once I went outside. I had to redial outside.

Can you call customer service and tell them some-ting-wrong ??? :D

Ting is great. Used it for years. My family has two different network providers with Ting. One is better dependending on where you are. I think mine is the sprint network, no issues. FYI, my family of five users can have bills in the $80 range.

I've had Ting for years. It's possible that the carriers they have contracts with deprioritize their users, but I've had 0 problems with Ting itself.

And my cell phone bill (2 phones) went from $115 a month to $36 a month.

I switched from Verizon (who I've had continuously since the bag phone days of the 80s - Cellular One back then I think?) to Walmart Straight Talk a month ago. $35 unlimited. Have not noticed any difference so far other than cutting my bill by 75% and my headaches by 100% :rolleyes:

Same here. Just a basic flip phone. Only used when Cindy or I are out and about. Use it for (imagine that) phone calls. Wouldn't have bothered to get one except there are no more pay phones. $100 minutes card doesn't get used up in it's year.
I call it our $8.33 per month plan.

All that said, almost always have a signal since they hitchhike several carriers. But then, we don't roam much. Usually within 100 miles of home, here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon.

Depending upon the phone you buy, Straight Talk uses the Verizon system. For differing phones, they offer different providers like AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. No difference in service, whatsoever, when you choose the appropriate Verizon compatible phone.

Am fed up with Ting's poor signal in my apt. Going to test Mint SIM. They use T-Mobile network. $15 prepaid program. 3 month commitment. They send SIM card and phone owner sets phone up them self. Not sure if that means there's no porting over one's number. Will use and post review in this thread.

I've used Ting both on Sprint and T-Mobile networks. I've had the same phone number since 2005 when my phone number originated with Nextel.

I have a smart flip phone. :D Yes, a key pad and a touch screen. $80 phone. $125/year. 1500 minutes, 1500 texts, 1.5 gigs data. I will never go over. I am not a cheapskate. I just dont care that much about the phone thing.

Why not use AT&T prepaid? Same as normal AT&T but way cheaper. I thought it was too good to be true, but no issues and pay about 2/3 or less of what I paid before.

I could not get a signal inside my house with ATT. Had to go outside to connect. :mad:

My iPhone use is making calls and sometimes (rarely) going online for needed info likes maps. No snapping, podding, movie watching, etc. Base rate with AT&T was $59. monthly. Yeah great coverage but if decent coverage can be had for $15... I'm supporting company that does that. Ordered Mint's SIM card yesterday. Am maybe pizzing $45 into wind to test this company. Maybe not. If it is a looser... hunt continues.

Have you checked your network selection?

Settings->Cellular->Network Selection

Is it set to auto?

Do you get more choices when you turn off Auto?
