Drove to Baltimore Md to see a Woman about a Bike....................

...............and ended up in the middle of a MLK rally, didn't get the bike, then an impromptu drag race ensued on the way home on Rt 95 south.

That would reflect a typical day in my life, seriously. Start the day out on a task and get side tracked. I'm pretty much up for anything.

Short story is I have been looking for a specific bicycle for approximately 4 years; a used Electra cruiser with 3-speed and coaster brake, in a specific model. I finally found one cheap enough, close enough to drive to pick up. It was in Maryland.

I want to customize it and new ones hover in the $800+ range. i couldn't see paying that much only to tear it apart and paint it and back-date it.

So........... an agreement was made via email, we go, we arrive on time and no one's home after driving 1-1/2 hours. Awesome. We waited for 45 mins and then decided to double back our route. In the city we were stuck in a traffic jam where several people were speaking at a MLK rally. Unfortunately the PA was so loud and distorted it was hard to make out what the woman was saying, so we moved on, headed home.

About 20 mins out of Baltimore on 95 with light traffic, we were traveling in the near left hammer lane when a early gen X5 in the fast lane starts taunting us. We are in our Jeep SRT8.......initially, I'm oblivious.

My wife says.." hey the guys in the black BMW wants to race us!"

So I look over and sure enough there are 2 guys in a black X5 looking at us gunning in a lower gear wanting to get it on. I look down at the fender badging, no M or IS, no big brakes............I'm like ............really? I tell my wife that they driving a stock X5, it;s not even a "M" version............ are they stupid? Don't they know what we're driving?

Well of course they do...................... which is why they wanted to run 'em off. I look forward and there's a good 1/4 mile free space in front of us, no traffic in our two lanes, just like a movie starting to unfold.

We were going @60 mph, I hit it, it downshifts to 3rd gear the engine starts screaming and pulling like a banshee, I look over and he is right with me

What?

Now we're into 4th gear and I'm ahead by a half of fender and just start pulling him slightly. By the time we are well into high gear I've run out of space but not before I show him my taillights as we got them by a car length........barely

I look over at my wife and say......Uh that's...... no stock X5.......... BTW. Even an "M" version of that year wouldn't hang with us. I've driven them all, trust me. Not sure what they're packing......... either a turbo or an LS conversion.......... but what ever they did, they need to go back and do some more

We slow down and again are side-by-side they give us a huge grins and 2 thumbs up......

We both laughed............looked at the time...............2:30 pm. The day was still young.

Happy to look at the bike for you... I work north of Baltimore City (Hunt Valley), but play squash downtown a couple times a week. Just PM if you want me to...

You honestly think you can run an x5 m in that Jeep? Ive been in both, and would consider them similar. will say, I was pretty impressed with the jeep. The x5 m, feels faster than a cayenne turbo to me also . Never been in em both back to back though. That would be a good race . Shootout between the 3 even...

Fred - it was NOT a M or IS - outside badging. It was clear whatever was under their hood, it was anything BUT stock. Our Jeep in the current state of tune makes 475 HP at the flywheel coupled with a 3:73 gearing. Its fast.

BTW - we again driving up Sat to pick the bike up, she had a family emergency.

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.
