Anyone watching the Australian Open (tennis)?

I’m a tennis nut. If I’m watching tv I’m watching the tennis channel. Waiting for the BNP Indian Wells in March, to go see in person. Tim

Cool, Tim. I'm more of a casual fan. I do try to tune into the AO each year as it kicks off the season.

Collins gave it a good run but the left handed Czech was too much for her....

Bill.....I think you are talking about the Czech, Karolina Plíšková, who lost her match last night to Osaka.

Not my type at all. Now the other Czech - the lefty Petra Kvitová - is a bit easier on the eyes, I would say....

Disappointed to see Fed exit. Can't say the same for Serena.

biosurfer1 01-24-2019 06:44 AM

I'm not one for conspiracy theories and don't have much of an opinion on Serena, but having played competitive tennis for years, having the first foot fault called on match point raised an eye brow for sure. Of course, being up 2 breaks in the third, it shouldn't have mattered.

I saw an American woman beat up on a veteran in the second round. Totally cool to watch the future play. I guess we got beat in subsequent round, but she was awesome. 17 years old.

I like watching the women. Less power and speed. A long volley is a joy to watch.

The do hate the grunt scream now.

I wouldn't let my kids watch Serena jiggle across the courts in her florescence green granny panties. The slo-mo was outrageous.
Kim has nothing on Serena's assets.

But, before she got injured, this 37 year-old showed those whippersnappers what she is capable of.

Very nice.

But I must admit I like all those slim lean blonde Northern European girls.

It was that Anna Kournikova one that started it for me...

The Fed ex-it was going to start happening sooner or later. He ain't no spring chicken. Roger was not happy with Mac's comment about witnessing the changing of the guard but it is what it is.

Serena is in the same position. Time is not her friend. Whether she choked or had an injury is another story. Even though I don't care for her attitude, you can't dismiss her accomplishments.

I would like to see Rafa take the men's. He's battled back from injury. Reminds me of my all time fav: Andre. Washed up, came back and became a champion again in spite of the problems with his back. I do miss classic rivalries like Andre and Pete or Mac, Borg & Connors.

Just watched an Investco Series match from last year between Mac and Jim Courier.

Great to see some of the vets still in it!

The Women's Final is on ESPN 2 right now. It's a replay of the match that played live while we were all asleep....except for those in the southern hemisphere, of course....

I don't know who won - yet - shhhhh........ :)

Por_sha911 01-26-2019 08:05 AM

good match. No one complaining of racism or threatening to kill the line judge.

Baz 01-27-2019 05:01 AM

No spoiler.

It's over now. I watched the men's final last night (this morning actually).

Enjoyed the post-game comments and agree that the Australians have much to be proud of for how well they put on their event.

Bonzer! :)

Por_sha911 01-27-2019 01:50 PM

My wife summed up the mens final by saying Rafa forgot to show up.

I was watching it live at a bar on Friday night. Left after the 3rd set started. I thought Osaka was choking and dug herself a big hole she couldn't get out of. Surprised she pulled it off.

biosurfer1 01-27-2019 03:01 PM

I'd like to see a changing of the guard in the men's game. I have enjoyed it and have great respect for Rafa, Fed and Novak but except for Andy Murray/Warinka a couple times and one or two other randoms, those three have won every major for the past 15 years.

Baz 01-18-2023 06:18 PM

On ESPN2.......Bonzer!
