Dude next to me smells like damp moldy towel. |
Once
On business . Delayed flight into Houston. Ran to my gate for the flight to Tyler. Another passenger was right behind me. Too late. Last flight to Tyler that night. The other late dude collapsed on rhe floor. He looked decent so I told him we could share a rental car. Arrive at the rental desk and ask for a one way. They didn't have any one way rides. I stepped away and called my company's corp travel desk. They gave me a confirmation for a one way. Walked back to the same rental clerk and gave her the confirmation number. Her look was pricelesss. I told my passenger the ride was on the house since it cost me nothing. As he got out of the car he tossed me a $20 and walked away. |
BTW, I have actually gotten on the wrong flight.
Way before 9/11, very tired, very busy airport with eighth gates at the end of the concourse. The flight was not full. I get seated and before they close the door they go through the spiel about where we are headed, etc. Holy f! I am not headed to Baltimore, I'm headed to National. What a rube. Quote:

My wife still works for a German holding company. She has direct reports all over the world and flies regularly to Munich, Milan, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Moscow, London, and Malaysia. She has over 600,000 miles on Lufthansa and another 500,000 on United. We're saving them for travel when she retires next year. First class flights eat them up quickly, but flying coach will give us free travel for a long time. Most of the time we get upgraded due to her status anyway.

My luggage has missed many a flight.

On our return trip our flight was delayed 20 minutes (It would turn out to be a 1 hour delay as they installed a malfunctioning piece of navigation equipment) we went to bathroom and purchased some water while the delay was going on. We lost track of time, they closed the gate by the time we arrived. We thought we missed the flight. Then a gate attendant arrived back out of the ramp. We were able to board, then sit at the gate in the plane for 40 minutes before finally pushing off. We like to be the last on the plane and spend as little time in the tube as possible. I always wonder why they do not load the plane rear to front. Seems loading would go much faster. Maybe they need the weight in the front first? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

He also snored loudly. I am also sick of the mid flight fart attacks. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

First time in Hawaii with my girlfriend. We missed the inter-island flight thinking we have to wait for hours before we can get over to Maui. Wouldn't you know it, we took the next one an hour later. its like a city bus schedule. Seems like they run on the hour and are totally relax. Love it, but don't know if they still do that. Haven't been to Hawaii for over 14 years not.

I try to avoid tight layovers for this reason. Our corporate travel agency tried to rebook me on a cheaper flight recently, until I noticed it had a 45 min layover in Denver, in the winter, with me coming in from Munich..... oh helllll no guys!

More times than I care to admit, especially in the pre-TSA days, I ran into and through airports. Depositions would be over early and I'd race to the airport to get on an earlier flight to get the last flight home to D.C. from West Wherever. Now I make sure there is lots of time. Airports are always interesting places these days.
A few years back did a business trip with a client on a Gulfstream G550. That's the way to travel; one of the few perks of being super rich I care about. |

We were flying from Houston to Chihuahua, MX. Flight is Delayed. First terrible fog in Houston, then weather in Chihuahua. Our 9AM flight took off around 2:30PM. The gate was changed about a dozen times. We are coming in for a landing and they make the announcement. One of the passengers signals the flight attendant and asked when the plane would be going on to Amarillo. He got on the wrong flight and ended up in a different country. The didn't scan the tickets, just collected the stubs. |
Flight into Milan took off two hours late. When got there only had 15 mins to make connection at far side of terminal. We sprinted through the airport past several Italian military with automatic weapons not looking too pleased, but we definitely looked like tourists. Made it to our gate just when plane pushed off. Waited three hours to get another.

Other side of the coin? I get to the AP at least an hour before a commuter flight, check in at the gate and then sit down in the waiting area for boarding. About 10 minutes before boarding was to start, they cancel the flight. Now, what was plenty of time became very short time running to the next gate to try and get on the next flight...
...which was cancelled 10 minutes before boarding. Now you have 2 flights worth of passengers wanting that 3 rd flight some 5 hours after the first was scheduled. Even though the cancellations were apparently due to lack of filled seats on the 2 previous flights, the manifest was now going the other way as they were handing out vouchers. That don't work so well for someone traveling for business that is already 5 hours late for a same day meeting. That was the last time I set foot in an airport. Given the fact that I made my 10am meeting at 3pm only 6 hours away by car, that's how I do it now. I was at the airport before 7am with less than 2 hours of planned travel schedule from gate to gate, including boarding and departure, you can see that I save time driving 6 hours if the slightest thing went wrong. When's the last time something at least slight didn't go wrong? If the scheduled airline industry was held to the standards of Long Beach Transit (municipal bus), they'd be so far in debt in fines that they would have to give up their charter. |
I ran the complete b concourse in Denver all the way down to regional jets with my 5 year old son. We got there To watch the plane push away from the gate. It was the only time he’s ever had a major meltdown in public. The airline staff couldn’t have cared less. Kindly though some others in the area offered him a chocolate chip cookie.
It was the last flight to our destination so when he learned he would get to ride the “subway” at dia and stay in a hotel he was happy. I’ve had to run a lot of other times but that one is the most memorable. |
Didn't miss the flight but still entertaining
Another flight from Houston to Tyler. Overbooked. Asked for volunteers. I took it. To get me home they put me in first class on a regional to Dallas. At Dallas they gave me a cab voucher from DFW to Tyler Pounds. A 100 mile cab ride . First cabby wanted no part of it. Second cab jumped at the chance. Pakistan, if I remember correctly. Off we go. He then says "I don't really want to go but my brother would love the trip. He also has a cab. He lives just a mile from here." I say to myself what choice do I have. So I agree. We pull up to an apartment and the driver jumps out and runs in. A few minutes later the brother comes running out with a paper bag. Jumps in and hands me the bag. A 6 pack of Heineken. I didn't have a bottle opener so he would open.them up with his.teeth. Quite a trip |
