				I love this Mangusta

Must be one of the most beautifully shaped autos ever. If only I had a few extra $100k’s laying about... I would leave the exterior as is or close to, sort the mechanicals and interior. Find some AC/DC cassettes and drive the snot out of her!! (No affiliation, btw)

I had a Hot Wheels of that car, in 1970s yellow. I found it buried in the schoolyard sandbox so I kept it. It was awesome. Didn't know it was a real car though.

Mangustas are on my short list. But nice ones can be had for under $200K I believe.

About 30 years ago I went to look at a Mini Cooper for sale. It was sitting on flat tires in a garage next to a Mangusta. That car was awesome. Next to a bungalow in the nicer part of town. The Cooper was seriously hot-rodded - bigger motor, side drafts, lowered, roll bar, dual tanks. Even back then I couldn't see using it as a driver.

I remember seeing and hearing one in the 70s. A great looking car and it had a roar.

Simply magnificent, if you watch Hagerty's Barnhunters series, there was one recently featured. Alejandro DeTomaso was a visionary man.

Like most Italians of that era, De Tomaso built some really under-developed cars. That Mangusta is over-priced and likely a nightmare in waiting for the next owner, assuming they can find a buyer.

true quick to production and then debugged by enthusiasts. these are muscle cars in Italian suits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backbone_chassis Unique to the Mangusto is the backbone chassis, that provided no protection from side impacts... hit head on engine might move forward a few inches into your chair. Mangusta likely less satisfying to drive than my ex 72 Pantera. The Pantera charging system went right through the dash amp gauge. Drive with a dead battery on alternator power only, made the amp gauge hot like a fuse. Last edited by ted; 01-31-2019 at 06:29 AM.. | ||
