Need shocks + struts for Toyota RAV4

My wifes 2007 Toyota RAV4 is in need of new shocks and struts , they are still original with aprox. 135,000 miles on them . Did some online searches for the local FLAPS then looked further out on the web

This set seems like a decent price for all , anyone have any knowledge about the " general " quality of this manufacturer ?

If you are not too sure about the quality of aftermarket parts, why not go with OEM parts. the originals lasted 135K after all. Be sure to verify model and options in below links.

The ebay units are bargain basement. Dent monroes com preloaded from variou sources, making them simple to install. If folks want to save some $$ and get good quality I usually steer to kyb. Also check the mounts for the struts if you dont buy them preloaded.

Go to a RAV 4 website and ask around. Ran KYB shocks and struts on the Superbeetle, durable and worked well with the progressive springs I put on it. Surprising how well that thing handled.

Put blue loctite on it when you screw it back together maybe.

You don't want Chinesium suspension parts on your wife's vehicle.

" You don't want Chinesium suspension parts on your wife's vehicle " ....... why not ? After all the life insurance is up to date But I hear what you are saying . I wonder who makes the shocks/struts for Toyota ? I'm pretty sure Toyota doesn't make them .

A friend has had really good luck buying suspension and steering parts from Detroit Axle. I bought some struts for my Taurus X that were made in China and was less than impressed. One came with most of the oil charge in the bottom of the box. I ended up putting motorcraft on the struts that were difficult to replace and another made in China set on the front that are easier to replace. We'll see how that all goes.

My Sienna shocks are KYBs. Bought them from my local import parts guy instead of the dealer. They were exactly the same at more then half price. KYB, Tokico, stock type shocks are all basically the same. Those are the only one I would buy.

I don't know who makes shocks for Toyota but I'm on my 3rd set in 3 years on my Camry. First replaced the OEM at 147K miles with Monroes. Horrible. Absolute garbage. Dealt with them for about a month.

Replaced those with KYB's because that's what everyone says OEM's are. They lasted about a year and maybe 15K miles before going out.

Replaced the KYB's with OEM from the dealer and they still ride like new with more than 20K miles on them. They ain't cheap but they will outlive the car and I was done replacing them.

I've found out the hard way that the market is flooded with cheap Chinese parts but you will spend more time and money in the long run than just doing it once with dealer parts.

+1

I use KYB Excel-G struts/shocks for any customer that has a wee bit of extra coin (vs cheaper aftermarket) and wants to keep their car "nice". Solid product.

I went with KYB "loaded" struts on my 2004 RAV-4 last summer. Very pleased. I paid $320 for both with a good discount but from my local FLAPS vs rock auto.

I would not change factory until you can bounce a corner up and down by hand and get the bouncy effect due to internal failure.

You could always just buy Bilstein and be done with it.

When I was a kid, we used to get Gabriel Striders to save money and we liked it.
