My daughter-in-law has convinced me to get a case that meets the Mil-Std for the drop test. She's an engineer and has never had a phone break since imposing that requirement on herself. That is a good enough recommendation for me to do the same. While I've never dropped my old phone, except when it was in a small camera case that I used to carry it in, I'm not betting on being that lucky with this new phone.

I use Spigen for my phones - Silicone cover. Since you have a flat screen 7, I also suggest you get a glass screen protector.

They make a bunch of different style and I think everything is on Amazon

Thanks James, I already have a PureGear glass screen protector on it, which I got taken on the price of at the time we signed up for the new phone service. Sigh. Live and learn as they say.

I find it's mostly how it hits.

I have literally thrown my phone over my shoulder into the road without a scratch.

The one and only time I broke one it slipped from my hand getting off the couch and dropped maybe 6 inches onto carpet. It hit just right.

A friend of mine uses these and swears by them.

Welcome to corners4â„¢

It's sorta like smashing a car window. Hard to do if you hit it in the middle but cake if you tap it in a corner.

I just ordered a couple of Supcase's for our phones. Should be here Tues.
I'll let you all know how they turn out.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will be OK, not having looked at/touched one before hand.

I recall a thread on Pelican some time ago...it pointed out how annoying it is to have thread titles that don’t indicate anything about the thread topic.

Just sayin’.

I've got an Otterbox cover and screen on my iPhone 7. It is not much larger than the phone but does have some rubberized coating on the edges that helps with the grip.

No one made you look.

Although, as a way to get eyeballs on a thread it does work cause, well here we are.

Otterbox Defender is one of if not the best iPhone case I ever had.
I just dumped a expensive Element case, it was junk, decided to try a Urban Armour Gear case,
So far so good.

Our cases arrived this afternoon and I installed them. My wife is happy with her Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro as she says it is 'grippy' enough that she (hopefully) won't drop it. We both found the naked phone hard to grip. She also liked the blue color as it will make finding her phone in the abyss that is her purse all that much easier. The back of the case is colored so stands out.

I'm pleased with the Unicorn Beetle (plain style) I chose as it adds just enough 'grip' while not being too 'grippy' for sliding into a pants pocket. It only adds a little to all the outer dimensions of the phone as well. The glass protector I had installed at purchase fits the case too. The backside of the case is glass/plastic so it looks like the front.

I'd like to thank you all for the inputs you gave.

Let the 'tech' adventure begin!

and next time I'll try to remember to put a subject in the title. SmileWavy

I put lifeproof cases on my kids phones. They have a great warranty for the case if you have any issues and protected the phones well. I used the supcase on my wife's Iphone.

I'm lucky now. My kids are grown and have to worry about their own kids getting a hold of their phones and breaking them. Being a grandparent has its advantages.
