Amazon Free Shipping

Along the lines of dynamic pricing.

I've run into this one several times.

You purchase an item that includes free same day shipping but the free same day does not apply above a certain quantity of the item.

Today it was TPMS's for one of my SUV's.

Needed 4. Once in checkout the free same day shipping is gone.

Switch quantity to 2 and it's back.

Order those 2.

Go back and place a duplicate order for another 2.

All 4 will show up today for free.

It's kinda stupid, if you can ship two packages same day for free why can't you ship one?

And i don't think it has anything to do with the size of a single package as I've had some pretty big stuff show up using same day.

If you're going to try an apply logic to some of Amazon's shipping and pricing practices, your head might explode.

I always just assume when something like that happens, the items got lost in an algorithm crack someplace.

Yep, people are not making those decisions. You are probably a 3rd standard deviation outlier by ordering 4, so their model was not fitted with that as a possibility.

As others have said.... it’s all an algorithm and the team that builds those is very secretive about what goes on behind the magic curtain.

I ordered 100 poly mailing envelopes. They're folded over, so about 8.5x11x2 package, and stuffed into a poly mailing envelope - ready to ship. So wouldn't the easy way to ship be to just stick a label on it? No, it comes in a gigantic box.

My daughter's friend used to pack orders for Amazon and she said the reason that happens is they run out of the right size boxes at their station and are too lazy to walk over and get more so they fill orders the rest of the day with whatever they have.

This explains a lot about the random boxing. I had a large box arrive the other day filled with air pillows and what I thought was an empty box. Upon removal of the packing I had discovered my item had slipped under one of the flaps. Sheesh.

I ordered 2 of an item that was "sold and shipped by Amazon" and "prime with free returns" for $170. 2 days later, the same item was now $127. I got Amazon on live chat and said "Can you just credit me the price difference. It'll save you the money of paying for the shipping?" Nope, they couldn't do it, so I processed a return and bought the item again at the lower price. Once the item arrived, I actually sent back the 2 new items that were still packaged and kept the two original items that way there wouldn't be an issue with returning items that had been taken out of the package at least.

Both pricing and shipping seem to be highly variable. There are certain parts I keep in inventory and often Amazon sells them for $100 less than my local wholesale suppliers. I just check prices periodically and when the price drops I restock. A strange way of doing business but I am patient and willing to price check other suppliers often.

I have a friend that still works at the big A. It isn't laziness. They are measured on how FAST they get out the orders. That stroll to get the right box may cause the worker to be written up for poor productivity. Too many write-ups and you are out the door regardless of how long you've been there or how great your record is up to that point.

Showed up.

Two separate boxes tracked as separate shipments delivered at the same time.

A930Rocket 02-03-2019 07:21 PM

I was just charged for my annual prime membership.

There was a $10 tax on it. Is that right?
