Gotta go...Russian style?

RUSSIA SAYS THE AMERICAN TOILET ON THE SPACE STATION BLEW UP

Russian media is reporting that the American toilet on the International Space Station (ISS) burst late last week, spilling gallons of fluid that astronauts had to catch with towels.

Sure, it sounds like a story about an exceptionally bad roommate — but it might also be the latest escalation in the deterioration of relations between Russia and the U.S. in space, lending grim gravitas to the plumbing snafu.

A source told Sputnik News, which is closely affiliated with the Russian government, that the toilet in the U.S. section of the ISS malfunctioned on Friday, spilling water into the microgravity environment. Water is a precious resource on the ISS, where filtration systems recycle shower water, sweat, and urine.

“Our colleagues at the [Tranquility module of the ISS] had an incident on Friday,” the source said. “Astronauts separated the water supply line and the liquid leaked. Over 10 liters of water leaked before the problem was fixed. The crew had to collect the water using towels.”

Though it sounds silly, the leak underscores a worrying decline in relations between Russia and the U.S. — not just down here on Earth, but in space as well. This past summer, when a small hole was discovered in the ISS, Russian authorities suggested that it could have been sabotage.

And that means that any new international friction in space, even when it’s seemingly gross and minor, is cause for concern.

How long before it pulls a skylab?

Cerial, it's had a good run.
it wasn't supposed to last as long as it has .they extended it's life to 2020, and now they're talking bout 2024. Maybe even 2028 but that's pushing it.
$100,000,000,000.00 doesn't go as far as it used to.

Can't they just go outside? ;)

unclebilly 02-05-2019 04:10 PM

It likely wasn’t plugged with too much toilet paper... in Siberia, there is a waste paper basket next to the toilet where Russians deposit their used paper...

I chose to not try this local custom when I was working there...

With the low pressure of space, I would expect things to balloon!

So, which side smuggled a cherry bomb up there and flushed it?

Use yeast in the Septic tank...and use a Garbage disposal sparingly. My parents never pumped in 30 years.

What you could do is hold it in for a few days and when you go out stop at a restroom and take a Rail Road Shyte..

I often wonder how it has to smell in a space station like that.
No showers, everything floats, very little real estate per capita.

One of the meals is a fish gumbo. Apparently, like everything else, it take a while to get the fish smell out...

red-beard 02-07-2019 10:46 AM

Imagine the guy with fish gumbo farts...
